Quick question...need very quick answer-please
07stanggt/rich asked me to sign on and get some quick info for him. He is trying to put his callipers back on the rear rotors but they aren't open enough to slip over rotor. He wants to know what he can do to release the pressure and open the callipers. We pushed the brakes on while the car was jacked up so we could take the front wheels off with out them spinning. Dont know if that seized them or not. Again he is at the garrage as I type hoping to get some info. Thanks/zoo

Thanks for the info...rich bent the only C clamp he had and the calliper wouldn't give in the process. He thought something else might be seizing it up. (it wasn't the E brake-lol) I'm sure he will jump this thread tonight and give you guys more info. As always thanks for the quick responses.

Is there a bleeder on the caliper? If so, try cracking that.

Take caliper completly apart...
If you screwed them the wrong way and went too far...
Take caliper completly apart, reassemble and you are all good

if he pressed the breaks with caliper off the rotor, the piston could have easily slid out of the piston bore.. and in the process busted the seal... if thats the case... refer to post #8 + rebuild kit.
never apply pressure to a caliper if there arent pads and rotors to keep in the bore. I bet the piston is jammed in the bore sideways. |

I haven't had the rear caliper off my Mustang yet to know if this is the case, but on a previous Ford I owned with rear disks the piston actually turned back into place. In other words you had to screw it back in.
Seriously though, if you look at the piston and there are 2 holes in it about the size of philps head screw driver, then you may want to try turning the piston. They make a tool for it, but when I was stuck before I was able to put the ends of needle nose plyers in and get it to turn down.
