How would you fix up a new mustang
I am looking into getting a new Mustang, but I am undecided on the model
I am wondering what I should do, here are my options... I am looking to buy this new car before the first. 1). Buy a Roush 427R 2). Buy a Shelby GT500 3). Buy a Mustang GT and Mod it out 4). Buy a Shelby GT500 and Mod it out The car is for everyday use, so nothing really fancy. Just an exhaust mod and possibly a body kit with new suspension. I am considering the following MAC Headers and MAC Off-Road Pro Chamber H-Pipe combined with SLP Loudmouth Axel-Back. When I heard this combination on some website weeks ago it sounded amazing. Whatelse would you do to a new mustang without over modding it? I want good handling and a good power curve with great looks and a "badass" exhaust system ![]() My question to you is can a modded regular old mustang GT achieve the same power curve as a shelby 500? if so, how. well,
you gotta have a car before you can mod it. second, if you have the money, get the gt500....comes w/ the 5.4 vice the 4.6--and it's supercharger out of the factory. if you dont have that kinda cash on hand, then got w/ a 'regular old gt' and mod the shit out of it. my two cents |

The gt500 comes with a bunch of power already, bolt ons and exhuast can take to you like 600rwhp easy i think. mabye more. 6speed transmission. a few suspension mods. If your not building a track car, or wanting some specific hp range. gt500 all the way.
and look at kooks catted x pipe with kooks cat back on a gt500. plus as i was looking at one the other day, the seats in that car are nicer. I want them in my gt. steering wheel wrap is nice too i want that. |

again, this is all if you've got the cash to throw down/promise your bank.
my dad's got a couple of the '500s. he couldn't be happier. they look like some bad ass mofo's straight out of the factory. |

If you can swing it, get the GT500 for sure. For around $1000 you can have about 515rwhp.

What are used GT500's running for these days? Maybe I'll just get one of those instead of Livernois short block, heads, blowers, etc... That is... in like 18 months when I can afford it.

Psychologically prepare myself...
Psychologically prepare myself to spend well over the price of my 'good deal' on a NEW car on modds alone, and still have a parts list that would make even Santa go

I just want the GT500 for the engine and trans. The front end still looks like a catfish to me.

900HP+ or NOS on a street car, crazy stuff like that. I plan on keeping whatever car I buy for years, so I have to see which can give me the best value. The dealer has already agreed to set the car up the way I want it before I take it home which is why I am asking. Most likely the setup I buy with it is the setup it will have for the rest of ownership. I read in alot of places that the suspension on a shelby gt500 is not properly setup to handle like a roush does, so I suspect I will need to fix that to account for the horsepower difference of a stock mustang. I could be wrong though. Yeah I know its a everyday driver, but we all love hitting the backroads. Here is the video 4:20 on the video talks about the shelby |

Man, this is a GT500 thread day... I'll throw my 2 cents in as well. If money is no object, GT500, hands down. It has a bulletproof 5.4 that will get you DEEP into the 11's with bolt on's and suspension. The car has a bit of a bad rap but the power potential of the Shelby is awsome.

isnt the roush 427 a 4.6? So i think your comparing 2 different animals there. i dont want to make any roush guys mad but id got with the gt500.
Whatever it is about the suspension thats different im sure it wouldnt take much to change, tighten it up with some springs and thats probably it. Does the roush have 20inch rims? thats another thing that would make a difference. There was a guy at cecil county one night that owned a roush and a gt500. I posted about it. His mechanic was there with him driving the gt500. The guys said it was soft compared to the roush and he like the roush better. So im betting just springs and tires. Make sure the shocks are good enough to handle stiff springs. Done. |

LOl Thats why i didnt watch it again. I think if you search my old threads i linked that and said how many mistakes does this guy make. I think he also said that the suspension and brakes on a gt500 were the same as a gt. Um other then 4 piston brembo calipers, 14in rotors, different springs, shocks/struts, lca, uca, tires rims. Not sure about the a arms or swaybars. Maybe thats what he meant. |

If you like to road race, the Roush... If you want to mod it and drag it...the GT 500. Just my two cents! I wish I had a GT 500, but then again I love my car too... I wish I could afford both. When I forge the lower end I will have the best of both worlds.

In all honesty, the Roush sucks. It is the same price as the GT500, but all it is is a stock 4.6 with a shitty blower on top of it. The GT500 has a bulletproof motor, and a 6 speed transmission. Some minor suspension mods would tighten the handling of the GT500 right up. Meh, buy a GT and put a nice handling kit from Steeda or BMR, some GT500 brakes, and some nice sticky rubber, and depending on whether or not it is a Stage 3 or 427R, some cams and other bolt ons. You still come out cheaper than the Roush and your car will be more car for the money.
