gauges

I'm getting boosted here soon and wanted to know what the 3 most important gauges are? I'm going to be buying the vortech v3 kit, unless i can find a used kit in the $3500 dollar range. Little bro is helping me get one. (just finished up basic training in fort benning, georgia... got a nice bonus) I figured the most important ones would be oil, air/fuel, and boost. What do you guys think? I'm thinking about going with the a-pillar gauge thing.

Boost and wide band. The rest is just as if you were N/A. How important is the rest? If you develope a boost leak you will know...and if you go lean you wil know...stock gauges take care of the rest.

ok, so no matter what i need a wideband gauge. Anybody want to point me to a decent one that isn't super expensive. I want to pay middle of the line. also, do they make any that fit in an a pillar? or do they all go by the steering wheel(that's the only place i've ever seen them.) I think i'll get boost, so is oil or fuel more important?

All you need is wideband and boost really.. Speed of Sound gauge pillars, pods, and switch panels for the Ford Mustang for the absolute best pillar, and Auto Meter for a big selection of gauges

Fuel, Wideband, and Boost in that order.....

If you lose fuel pressure you lose your engine, if you are too lean/rich you can lose your engine, and the boost is something to look at and verify any vacuum leaks that will undoubtly occur along the way.

I wouldn't be worried about an oil pressure gauge since the car already has one factory installed and the sensors to monitor it. I have seen that the factory oil pressure gauge is pretty accurate. Another thing is if you lose any oil pressure yout VCT will let you know about it just as fast as the gauge will.

here are a couple suggestions

Pillar - Speed of Sound 2005+ Ford Mustang gauge double and triple gauge pillars

Fuel - Autometer Ultra-Lite Series 2 1/16" 0-100 PSI Fuel Press. Gauge [AUTO-4363] - $230.66

Wideband - Autometer Ultra-Lite Series Digital Wideband Air/Fuel Ratio Kit [AUTO-4378] - $349.99

Boost - Autometer Ultra-Lite Series 2 1/16" -30/+15 Boost/Vacuum Gauge [AUTO-4376] - $204.56

The Boost Gauge shown is an Electric one but you can get the Mechanical one for around $75, but I did not see the Mechanical one on the site so you would have to call.

If you do not have the interior upgrade package, you don't have MyColor, the trip computer or the temp and volt gauges.

Here is the IUP cluster.

Non IUP cluster with Roush gauges, but you get the idea.

As for your question.

Gauge Pod: Click

Fuel Pressure and Boost: Click

Autometer makes different color gauges, but I think the Cobalts look the best. Look here and look under the Autometer section.

Wideband: Click

boost is not needed, it just looks cool. from what ive read, if you develope a boost leak you'll be able to feel it.

Don't know how much tuning you're planning to do, but boost gauge, wide band, and air/fuel are a must. If you're really going to dig into, an exhaust temp guage and inlet air temp gauge are very helpful.

It also depends on your type of forced induction if you ask me. If you have a Turbo, you absolutely need a boost gauge. There is a much greater potential for leaks and problems similar. It is also a needed gauge in a centri-kit if you ask me. Because you have all the pipes for the inter/aftercooler and the tubes fore and aft of them. Now a PD blower on the other hand, its not a real need more than a want. They are much less likely to have boost leak/creep issues.

My top three:
Centri/Turbo
Boost
A/F (this will tell you if you have fuel system problems. why do you need fuel pressure?)
Oil Pressure (I agree that the factory gauge isn't as accurate or as fast.)

PD Blower:
A/f
Oil Pressure
IAT (Because IAT's are higher on the average with a PD blower and it is something that can tell you if your water-to-air cooler is working correctly.)

A wideband and air/fuel are the same thing.

If you have a Wideband you don't need a EGT gauge (aka Pyro) because it tells you the exact same thing a Wideband tells you.

well, after looking at that pic and my car again, i guess i don't even have an oil gauge... just the temp and gas. Do i still not need an oil? If i have a a/f gauge, than wouldn't that kinda moniter my fuel also? Am i going to need a 4 guage set up? a/f, gas, oil, boost?
