changing the oil is a good first step... good to do most anytime,right... what part of the country are you in? if your not way north then change it to the next heavier viscosity than whet is in there now.. quick and easy way to eliminate oil as a potential problem... I know how hard it is to find a noise because it is so loud in there...

My vote is on exhaust leak. When you have an exhaust leak between the manifold/header and the head and only 1 cylinder is leaking, thats how it sounds.

Yes, the follower sits between the valve and a lifter that is sitting in a bore in the head. Technically it isn't a lifter, it's a lash adjuster, but works the same way as a hydraulic lifter to keep the follower in contact with the cam.

You know, I listened to my motor idle for about 10min today ... it makes all kind of little rattles and noises ... injectors, valvetrain ... it could be just "normal" after listening to your vid again.

Even if it's the phaser my car still doesn't seem right and it doesn't explain the canbus system resetting. I guess the apt could be bad as well. The volt meter was showing the apt doing funny thing then the canbus reset and then a sending unit for the gas tank came up with an error code and then when I reset the battery it all went away. The car just doesn't seem as peppy. Maybe I got bad gas though. I put in some 91 octane just to see why it would do. I filled it from half tank

Im waiting till tomorrow to go to a friends house to tear it apart. Is there any way to physically see damage to the VCT phaser or is it just a part you replace and see if the sound goes away?
Im going to hopefully today change the fuel filter and change the oil and put in some fuel injector cleaner like the TSB says for the fuel sending unit. Its weird that they say to do that cause I heard that in the manual it says not to put in fuel injector cleaner. Im still confused on 2 things though. If the VCT phaser went bad, why do I think I have a loss in power? Maybe its just me though. Also, why did my CANBUS system reset and why do I get a hiss over the speakers when the engine is on then when I turn it off it goes away? Maybe a bad alternator? |
