Wildest sounding Mustang, Coal digger.

Does anyone have a video of this car. It is the yellow Roush car driven by Don Bowles. I was just reading about the car and he is using a Nascar motor that was once in a Carl Edwards car. Evidently Roush has a lot of Nascar motors that were test motors, qualifing motors and some used in races on the shelves. I saw the car at Bowling Green and it is one of the loudest, baddest sounding Mustangs out there. If anyone has a video, I think everyone on here would enjoy the wild sound of this Mustang. Thanks, Ron

Nmra Racepages Article.

The article I saw this in is the latest edition of NMRA Racepages. If you are not a member, you might go to their website. To obtain one of these engines, contact Doug Yates at Roush/Yates racing engines. Most of the engines have less than 5000 miles on them and they are refreshed and of course bullit proof. The Coaldigger car runs 9:50s on one holley fourbarrel and E85 fuel. Bowles is in the coal business and the car is a test bed for Roush products and E85 fuel. The price for one of these engines was not given, but the article said they put out 950 hp and can be purchased for much less than you could build one yourself. These engines are based on the 351 Windsor and a whole kit is included to put them in an S197. By the way according to the article, it is not a major deal to fit one in. Ron

the motor will cost xxx but how much would it cost to upgrade everything else...I bet that motor weighs 200lbs more than a 4.6... and if it is a "nascar" engine, those things are real expensive to get 950 hp out of a 351 that is n/a... that is some parts there... did you say carburetor????.. I don't think it will pass emissions either... but it did sound mean as hell

Thanks for the sound clip.

Thanks for the clip. The car is pretty wild. There were a lot of cars at the NMRA finals, but this one definitely hit the wildest lick. I hope a lot of people on here got to see the clip. I cannot wait to see the car again next year.

Thanks, Ron

Don Bowles, the driver of this car is the head of drag racing development for Roush Racing. His team includes Jack Roush's daughter Susan, her husband, Donnie Bowles Jr. and Don himself. This racing team is his business. I have watched him race since back in the sixties and Don is in his mid 60s. He is a personal friend of Jack Roush and if you read the article in NMRA racepages you will see that Roush himself helped develop this package to drop in an
S197. Don has been a great Ford racer for over 40 years now.
