Question about SCT Xcalibrator 2 (tuner)

Hi everybody,

I have a Mustang GT 2005 MANUAL 4.6L 100% stock, with SCT and CAI.

I have made some little modds on this little computer and i think i have got some horsepowers more ! (I tried this night, and i accelerate a little more than M3 E36, M3 E46 and E30 with 3L engine of a friend). This is wonderful !

I would like to know what are the best parameters to enter in the tuner ?
Because i don't know which ratio to put for air/gas, or between 2000 and 4000 rpm (-2deg, -4deg, -6, -8, -10 ,-12deg ?) Same question under 2000rpm and after 4000rpm) ?

And for Gas, we can choose 89, 91 and 93 RON, but in France, the only 2 types of Gas are SansPlomb 95 and SansPlomb 98. What do i have to select ? To put SP95 and select 93 and to put SP98 and select 93 ?

Thank you very much ! :wink

Greetings from Paris, France.

oh boy...

If you are playing in that programmer without seeing your air fuel ratios, you honestly can't make changes of that nature on your own via seat of the pants feel.

If you playing with timing, which it sounds like you are, I hope you have a very good understanding of what requires you to make those adjustments.

You should have the changes made by an experience programmer on a dyno. They will make everything perfect.

I agree...reguarding a/f ratios,"lean" makes more power, but if your just a little to lean, you'll be detonating and may not even hear it,this could/WILL kill the motor quik, especially if your cranking up the timing also.I'm still real new on the Ford obd-2's.As far as i know so far,Ford OBD2's don't auto-retard timing if the motor is "knocking" like the vettes and camaro's do.The stangs will just knock away until the pistons are toast..iv'e seen a lean condition ruin a motor on the dyno while the tuner was tuning the car.
Doesn't the SCT have a built in scanner? If not,you can find cheap scanners for about 100 bucks (US).Learn the basic fuel/air settings, scan and tune away.I have a scanner.
The car comes a little "rich" from the factory,so the engine lives long past the warranty,so by leaning out,or adding a little timing gains a few horsepower.Theres no more "magic" or hidden power without changing parts..so don't get to carried away..
Reguarding the gas,go with the highest tune you can,i think it was 93,then just use the 95 octane, scan the car at wide open throttle and look for any spark knock.....

Yes, select the 93 octane tune. The US fuel is averaged research+motor/2. Most European fuel I have tuned for 93-96, measured the same way, and if you'd like, add 2 more degrees for a little more power. Do not change the air to fuel ratio. If there is any way you can measure your changes on a chassis dyno, to see if adding the 2degrees helped, versus seat of the pants feel.

The 2005-up Mustangs do have knock retard, and can retard up to 4 degrees at higher RPM. This should not be leaned upon, but will allow you the 2 degrees addition, without fear of instant destruction.
