one of the down sides to the 05/06 are all the new electronic controlling, so most of the mods will require you to have your car retuned (PCM reflashing). maybe keep your eye out for an XCAL2... but a JLT CAI is allways a good start and pretty easy to install.
JLT ~> http://www.jlttruecoldair.com here is an article to read about a test performed on a lot of the availible CAI's (click here) im sure a few of the 05/06 owners can give you a little more feedback

Yes definitely get your XCAL2 and JLT's CAI.
Pull that pesky hydrocarbon trap, and add the CAI, just remember to go get a tune. It's important. |

I've been checkin out the sight is it really worth the almost $350 for the tuner? I mean if I'm gonna pay someone else that much to do it for me I'd rather do it myself and then whenever I want. I'm owned 2 67's in the past so I'm not really familiar with all of this>>> Thanks for the help...

Yes it's very much worth it.
Lemme give you prime example, I got a new throttle body for my S197, it ran ok for an hour or so, but soon threw a code to the computer. Check engine light comes on and the car goes into a fault mode. Without a flasher, you are calling a tow truck. With a flasher you can hook up to the OBD port under the steering wheel, read the codes it threw and then clear those codes. After that you are back on the road. Granted that a problem still exists, clearing a code doesn't fix what caused the code but it does prevent you from having to get towed to a shop just to clear a code. It's unfortunate for me because I got into the game so early in this model, I have an XCAL1. Paid the same amount as the XCAL2, yet I can ONLY flash. Not read/clear codes. The computers on these cars are extremely sensitive to modifications, without a computer reflash your car will not operate at full efficiency, and heaven forbid you lean it out too much! Oh and another thing the tuner will do for you, is give you access to all of the database switches that control how your car reacts to your input. Such as the Fly by Wire Throttle system, that can be tightened up to react sooner. Things like your Rev Limiter, default from factory is 6200 rpm iirc, with a tuner you can safely squeeze out a few hundred more. Mine is now at 6800. Hope this data helps some. Oh and the Tuner VIN locks to your car, so if you take it to a shop they have to user your Tuner. You can get the VIN lock removed but only by the Manufacturer of the Tuner. |
