Help with supercharger parts list
OK guys, getting ready to buy the Kenne Bell 2.8L Mammoth supercharger kit (going for about 650-700 RWHP), and I want a little help on what else I need to do to make sure I don't turn my car into a hunk of scrap metal. Here's a basic list of things that I'm pretty sure should be replaced, and please add as you see fit.
Forged bottom end Driveshaft Rear gears Flywheel (aluminum or steel?) Clutch Radiator Wheels & tires Brakes Added: Axles Transmission Fuel Pump/Injectors Full rear suspension Last edited by Merenth; January 11th, 2009 at 05:45 PM. |

Ok... I'm glad you know what you want. Now, are you buying the complete 2.8 kit from JPC or what? What comes with the kit your looking at?
Keep in mind suspension. Your going to need some pretty hardcore suspension to put 600+RWHP to the ground. Suspension parts your going to want to research: Rear lower control arms Rear upper control arm and a heavy duty mount Front and Rear sway (Depending if you plan on only going in a straight line fast.) Shocks & Struts Don't forget if your going to take it to the track, at that power level, your going to at least need a roll bar if not a cage. Also, it would help if we knew your goals with the car. Not just the number you want to run on the dyno. What are you planning to do with the car? |

I'd hope so. Only hes got a 2.6H not a 2.8. Totally differen't lower intakes. Similar power curves though.

Buying the complete kit direct from Kenne Bell (supercharger, intake, fuel pump, injectors, etc.). Already have the rear suspension, but not the heavy duty mount. Also I will most likely be changing out as much of this from steel to chromoly as possible. This is going to be for drag racing only, though street legal. Not intending any autocross or street racing. Sway bars are a good idea though at that level. Good point. At some point nitrous may be added to the car, but that's down the road after new heads and cams. The overall goal is a car with approximately 900-1000 RWHP. This is the first RWD car I've modded to this level, so I'm not sure how it will react applied to just 2 wheels instead of 4.

That's more or less the idea for the moment. Anybody have the names of a couple reputable shops that do transmissions for the S197 at that level? Found plenty of places that do normal rebuilds or ones for about 500HP, but not 650+

At what point do the stock axles give out? Any experienced failure yet?

There's been a bunch of guys break diffs and axles. Most of the factory stuff, the trans, the diff, the axles, is good up to roughly 500 at the wheels....and at that point it depends on luck and how you drive it.
If you put down 700 to the wheels, it's just a matter of time until you break something if you don't upgrade it.

I didn't see what year Stang your building?? if it is an 05+ and you want 650+ you will surely need a transmission as well... and adjustable Upper control Arm... I am still running stock radiator and added drilled and slotted rotors.. there a few other KB guys in here and I am not making the kind of power you want to as my car is still a daily driver. 05mustang_KB_charged has the same type of power you want and he will be the guy to talk to... he hasn't been around much lately but he'll see this..

we already have 31 spline axles and they are almost as strong as the Mosers.. run them till they break... just got done looking for them and they are 350 a pair... another thing your going to be required to have in at least an 8 point cage

It's an 05 GT. The roll cage will be for next year, as I probably won't have everything ready for the track this year anyways. I'm also planning on this being a daily driver until after the heads and cams, since that level of power is impractical on the street. I did notice that I haven't had any problems with engine temps though. Don't have the S/C yet, but I haven't noticed a difference yet. Is the stock radiator ok for the 600 RWHP level? On that same note, how many people have had success with an electric water pump? I'd rather not really since it's a daily driver and I've heard way too many stories of electrics failing, but at the track I'd like to be able to cool the engine more when I'm not running. Anybody ever set up a dual system for this?

i did a lot of research into the mammoth kit and was on my way to ordering it until financial responsibilities caused me to spend my money elsewhere.
this kit alone can give you what you are looking for w/o heads or cams. Currie Enterprises Crate Rear End Products http://ddperformance.com/ New - Livernois Motorsports - Home RAD Mustangs Performance Parts Shop talk to rich (07stangGT) he'll hook you up

I dont think the supplied KB fuel upgrades will be sufficient to support 600-700rwhp. I think they send you a BAP and 39lb injectors is all correct? I would think you would need dual pumps at least and 60lbers.

Good links! Livernois is who I'm going with for the bottom end. They seem to have the best reputation with our engines. That and the fact that they use new blocks instead of rebuilding engines helps.
05roush0090 - You appear to be right about the BAP and injectors, though why on earth they would send out parts that barely meet the specs at the lowest end of the mammoth capabilities I don't know. Though yet again, that's another question... fuel line upgrades. At that level -8 or -10 is normally used, though I know our stock fuel system is actually fairly decent.
