Best short blocks/rotating assemblies???
With the tax returns coming in im looking at doing a short block in my car guys......I know Livernois is one of the best, but is there any "cheaper" ways to go??? I know cheap is not always the best, but I have hook-ups at some machine shops. (meaning i can get good work for cheap).....Im looking for a High compression setup. Flat top pistons (around 10.5.1 compression).......Is there any ptv issues with the flattops??? Can I safely run a stage 3 head with them?? any info appreciated guys. There is a fellow member on here that i might be picking up a cobra crank and rods from too.

summit carrys a eagle series that is a 100 bucks cheaper i think...but the stroker kits for these cars are all around the same price...I assume you will stoke it if u r going to go thru the trouble of rebuilding...right

Im going to buy another block, get it ALL ready, and slap it in the car in one weekend. I cant afford to have my car down to rebuild the motor thats in it. SOOOOO i was thinking about picking up the termi crank and rods from a certain MM member, and just going factory size bore and stroke.........I dunno though

Always cheaper if you have access to a quality builder local. MMR and Livernois are adding in cost for assembly that comes at a premium.. If you know people that do quality work, trust them, and come at a discount, then have it built just get the parts on line..
Personally, I'd rather have the one on one face to face experience over an assembly line short block anyway. |

I'd go Livernois IMO, however if your looking for a less pricey alternative check out BBR in FL. IIRC they have a set up (must send core) in the 3K area

Well I can do all the assembly myself actually, and that will save a considerable amount of money. Any machine work I need done will come fairly cheap too, because of the "hook up". Im worried about a flat top 3v piston with a stage 3 head having clearance issues. also, who out there makes a GOOD forged flat top for 3 valves?

I purchaced the livernois 298 kit for 2100.
It has Kellog crank Manley rods wit harp 2000 bolts And Malhe coated pistons. 8.7 to 1 compression i believe. Now im getting it built for 950.00 bucks He is also porting and polishing and bowl blending my heads for 600.00 bucks...just like a stage 2 head. Thats all canadian dollars by the way.

whichever kit you get they will have to machine the valve reliefs in the piston, flat or dished.

it is part of the rotating assembly, they do it for you already before they sell you the kit. If you look at any of the 3v pistons they have at a minimum the exhaust valve machined relief. here is a picture of my pistons with Eagle kit.
