Belt slipping

My friends belt seems like it is slipping on his car. We swapped belts for the track to bypass the power steering and when he put the original belt back on, he said in 3rd or 4th he could push the accelerator down and the rpms would drop down and then come back up.

So we put a brand new belt on it, and it is doing the same thing. He doesn't have a computer at home so I'm posting for him. He is going to bring it by my house tomorrow to give me my nitrous bottle back and I'm going to check it out for him.

Any ideas or suggestions will help. Thanks guys.

Sounds like your friend needs an upgraded tensioner arm such as this.

Yes a new tensinor pully would be the best bet right now and if that seems to not work.... check all the pullys to make sure they are not out of line and also check the previous belt to see if there is any cracks or tairs in it from the pullys to indacate out of lineness

Makes no sense to point at belt slip or tensioner, your description stated RPM's fell while on the accelerator. That doesn't occur with belt slip, it's the opposite. You get lots of Rpm's and no seat of the pants movement.

is it supercharged? I think it may be a plug problem if he is using nitrous. A belt would not make the rpm's fall unless something is dragging it down. Like a bad idler or power steering pump.

maybe it is the other way around rpms up and then they come back down? I haven't been in the car yet today but I'll give an update as soon as he brings it by. Thanks for the input guys.
