Service Question
Im up for my first dealer service since buying my car. Can i take it to any ford dealer? i work far away from the dealer i bought it from and cant really take a day off or half a day to get it serviced. Also my bumper to bumper warranty is close to expiring. Should i go ahead and bump it up or just not worry about it?

Warranty work is honored in any Ford dealership. Generally you just go back to the dealer of purchase because since you purchased there, you get treated well. (that's the general concensus anyway).

+1 I bring mine to where I bought it, even though it takes me an hour to get there and about $35 in tolls and gas. They take care of me being I bought it there and get it serviced there

Dealers here are not busy, begging for work, so if it's the same near you, probably under an hour.
If it's just an oil change why not knock it out yourself? |

A friend told me to keep the warranty you need to have a receipt showing the work was done. Besides i dont have the time to do it and id feel more comfortable having someone trained to do it since im not very mechanically inclined lol

That's cool. You can do your own oil changes and maintain warranty. If there is ever a worry, keep a log of the mileage you do them at and keep the receipt for the filter and oil. Even that's overkill, but for peace of mind in the event you decide to do them, your more than backed..

I was given the shakey eye by my dealership for changing the stock airbox filter out for the KN one (<runs>) on my 06... The mere mentioning of a CAI kinda got the whole crew to shudder at the whole "Warranty" thing even though they all agree that it's kind of a necessary evil on these cars!
Granted though, you are not there for warranty work (or are you?) so they shouldnt give a flying hoot about the CAI. If you do need warranty work they may not honor the warranty with the CAI + tune on. |

Woodhouse usually replaced the stock airfilter every time I brought it in for an oil change. After getting the KN put in there they stopped messing with it. It pays to know the mechanics are not idiots and throw out a better air filter (even if it is a KN). If you are JUST getting your oilchanged I wouldnt worry about it. They will pop the hood, see the CAI and close it again once done with the oil change and not think twice about it. But come time for warranty work I can guarentee anything in the engine and drivetrain will not be covered with the CAI and tune installed. A real Ford tech would be able to say more.
As for extending the bumper to bumper... screw it, start getting onto the exterrior mods since the warranty is almost up. How many times have you needed it to be repainted because of flaking paint? My thoughts exactly. Unless you purchased their "Uber protection package", like my parents stupidly did for mine, you will probably never use the bumper to bumper warranty. The only warranty work I've had done was all drive train shit from a bad rear diff on my 06, never paint work under warranty. |

I thought that they could refuse warranty only if it could have caused the malfunction

is your cold air intake smog legal??? If so they can't do crap about it..........unless it causes another part to fail, they have to overlook it. As long as you keep the filter clean (dirty filter means they can get you for lack of maint.)
