The short awnser is; it shouldn't. The only reason a boost spike happends is something is wrong in the setup or there is a "hiccup" when you push in the clutch or let off the gas near the limits (Boost Peak or Rev. limit) . Basically a rappid change in backpressure will make the boost spike (if backpressure builds up) or drop (if backpressure is released quickly) .
A boost controller, in my opinion, is a requirement on a turbo kit. Springs work, but they can be a pain and may take a lot of fiddling to get it right. Meaning, installing a spring, not seeing the boost pressure and then re-installing a new spring. With a decent boost controller you can better make the adjusted in a much quicker time frame. Obviously its also easier. Roush Stage II has the kit you speak of and I'm sure he will chime in. I believe he has a Electronic Boost controller. I think its a Eboost, but I'm unsure. Cliff notes: Get one. Because its a good investment and may save you time down the road. |

Its all good. I used to own a WRX so I'm some what educated on the subject. Although I'm still learning myself. Also, keep in mind, my examples are the only reason for boost spikes. Just the most common' in my opinion.

I did like the car, it was fun. Although, it didn't have nearly the potential the mustang has and wasn't nearly as reliable when your pushing the limits of the stock peices.

Welcome to the forum mustangflanagan, where are you from? What type of driving are you going to be doing (drag racing, road racing, or just street use)?

That's cool, thanks for the job you guys are doing over there. I'm prior military myself, 91-delta (operating room specialist, or surgical tech.). Dude, you have it made if you live in Jersey. Take it to JDM for the tune. I'm using one of Jim Sr's tunes and I would drive all the way from Texas to New Jersey for his tune!!! It's that much better than any of the other tunes I've used. As far as the boost controller, it all depends on how much power, and adjustability you want on the stock lower end. The turbonetics comes with a 8.5# spring which is usually good for anywhere from 430-450 rwhp. Anything over 450 rwhp and you are going to have to do fuel, spark plug, cmcv delete plates, and MAF upgrades. I'm using a GReddy Profec B Spec II boost controller...and it is a little complicated, but it is awesome as well. It gives me alot more control of everything from how soon the boost comes in, to how much boost I get, and it also has a low and high boost setting. It can limit over boosting, and show peak boost too. It is an awesome tool for a turbo. The only thing really to determine if you should get one, is how competetive you want to be. If you are wanting to get the most out of your setup, even at lower power levels, then you will eventually want one.

yea i am in iraq but stationed in texas, i prob invest one i am looking at the turbonetics kit and it comes with 39 lb injectors no fuel pumps or boost a bump i dont think that will cut it for the time being, yea i am fairly new to turbocharger been into superchargers buti went for a ride in a turbo d stang i liked it so i fig i go down a diff path then your normal supercharger. yea i heard great things about jdm and their tunes for saleen super chargers, with my old stang i dealt with crazy horse racing and big daddy performance both were pretty damn good a little pricy butthey def know what they are doing worth the money

Hey OP,
Welcome, and thanks for your service. I'm having an eboost2 installed on my 05 Hellion GT single. The boost spike isn't something you'd have to worry about between a boost controller and no boost controller, but what's good about having one is that it keeps the waste gate shut until peak boost is reached, so you don't have problems with boost leak. Under stock engine conditions, it's not a HUGE deal, considering it's only ~8 lbs. or so but every little bit helps. The electronic ones also have some other good uses, like shutting off if boost does go too high, alert signals, I know the eboost2 can map boost vs. RPM, and a whole mess of other neat little tricks I haven't even looked into yet. Seen them run on 1000+ HP TT cobra drag cars, etc. and they're backed by the shop I'm using 100% <Reason I'm going with it. Pretty much what Roush II said, if you want the most out of a 450 rwhp stock bottom end turbo mustang, you'll want one. This is after I changed from an AEM truboost that had a broken solenoid, thus rendering the entire thing useless. And since I bought it from a guy on Ebay on a decent deal, he's not letting me return it because I tried installing it already. (Racetech performance, can't say I'm happy with them)

Eboost II is supposed to be one of the best. I bought the GReddy because it was alot cheaper, and still does what I needed.
