Livernois Stage 2 vs. Stage 3 Heads

Sorry if this has been answered, I did some searching but didn't come up on anything.

I've been reading that stage 3 heads are usually not good for street, why is this? I plan on being able to drive my car daily whenever the weather is nice. How will a stage 3 head affect drive ability? Because of the boost and cams I'm going to be running, the stage 3 heads are the best match for my setup.

Rich, purchase is going to be made very soon

With the boost your running i wouldn't worry about it. To me and my n/a setup I thought I may have lost some low end with stage III heads. Either way I just didnt think i would benifit from the stage III heads on the stock bottom end n/a. You got a blower and a stroker so no shortage of torq. In your case its different.

Just my 2cents.

So when people say that stage 3 heads are "not suitable for a street car" they are assuming stock block that won't get much power/mods? Cause my car is going to mainly be a street car. Only place I'll track it at is somewhere that does not require a roll cage and what not

Thats all a low end power thing on the steetability issue. In your case its a non issue. stage IIIs all the way in your case. Even on my setup you might be talking 15lbs down low, but it was 15lbs i dont want to give up for the addtional cost and a question of how much would i gain up top.

i'm going with an equal to the stage III's on mine, but i also got a hell of a deal on them and i'm looking at my end state not my now state. if i loose a little down low now oh well. they will be better heads for my end goal than the stage II's.

My impression is that it's more about driveability. Just had Livernois stage III heads/blower cams installed. Lance cranked up the motor for the first time since November, a couple days back, and I heard it over the phone. Sounded like a 100% race car on idle, but not particularly street user-friendly. I'm thinking the idle would really be tricky in stop and go traffic (at least in our car).

+1 on the vid.

Brought my cam to work yesterday. Lance just happened to have taken tuesday off. Today my truck is in the shop, so don't have transportation to get to the car. Might be able to use girlfriend's car tomorrow and also see if the NX kit is boxed. Also the JPC intake man. is due in tomorrow...take vid of that too.

Stage II heads/cams
Can't remember. Usually everything get sold locally by Lance to others that are building up their cars. I'll check with Lance.

I called Livernois this fall with the exact same question and the answer I got from them was unless you're running a dedicated track setup like Fornsicsteve, it's going to straight up suck to drive. What psi are you gunning for? I think you'd be better off running the stage 2 heads, Comp stage 2 SPR blower cams and drop your static compression to no lower than 9:1 (I assume you're going to be building the bottom end)...you'll still get a ton of power but you won't have a dog for cruising. Just my $0.02...

Hmmm, that makes me wonder.

Right now I'm probably going to run between 10-15 PSI until I can upgrade the rear end and tranny. I'm going with the Livernois 298 stroker short block as well.

Why would I not be able to drive it as easy? Because of the cams? I'm just lost as to why it would be harder to drive if all that changes is low-end torque which I have made up by getting 4.10's

What kind of blower cams did you go with? I'm taking my Comp Stage 2 XFI SPR cams back and was hoping on getting the Comp Stage 3 XFI SPR Blower cams

There are two different versions. The XFI SPR Blower cams (obviously for blowers) and the XFI SPR cams (for n/a apps). Both have all three stages I believe (stage 3 requires worked heads). You can run the Stage 2 XFI SPR cam (which was what I was going to run) or if you upgrade your heads (which I believe you talked about), you can run the stage 3

Those might need lockouts. >_>

I'll go with Stg 2 SPR, they'll help enough.
