Question about your Roush bumper

Hi. Couldn't help but notice your bumper. I posted a question earlier about the Roush bumper wondering if anyone got one from the Roush performace site and ordered it prepainted. I was concerned about the color match. Did you by chance order a prepainted one? In you pic it looks great. Even more important though is how do you like the fit? I'm also the guy that posted a warning a couple of weeks ago about buying anything from Extreme Dimensions. I did and I'm very disappointed. They make inferior quality product overseas and the fit is terrible. So I'm thinking about changeing it over already to a Roush bumper and am just trying to get as much info as I can this time so I don't get burned again. Also, my hood is very similar to yours. This link was sent to me over the whole hood pin issue so you guys have really helped me there too. Anything you want to tell me about your bumper will be greatly appreciated.

I've ordered quite a few things from Roush pre-painted and everything has been spot on with great quality.

My car was in an accident (not my fault, luckily) and had all of this installed by the ford dealership doing the collision repair work. I happen to know that they did actually order it pre-painted, and the color match is perfect. They painted my hood themselves, and the color is great on that too, they really know what they are doing. (Brandon Ford in Brandon Florida) I haven't taken it off yet, so I can't really speak as to how easy the install is, but the fit once everything is in place is perfect, and I have no reason to believe it was very difficult to install, as it looks like all of the old mounting points were used. I'd say go for it! In the end yours will look very similar to mine I'm sure. Just don't come down to Tampa, cuz I'm the only one with a mustang that looks like this, I get head turns everywhere I go (in a part of town where Ferraris and Lamborginis are seen every day) and don't want you stealing my thunder! haha. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm going to throw up some pics of what the hood pins look like installed sometime today, they are beautiful.

those are the same pins I got put on mine. I have the Steeda cowl hood and I had them installed in the outer stops. I think they look much better there, and would deffinately make your hood look cluttered if installed inside. those pins are made for the gt500 when installed in outer stops and Shelby GT for the inside stops. Shelby should have a kit by now for the mods needed for that spot on the gt. i was too impatient last spring and had them installed when hood was painted and installed. be aware the pins will NOT fit flush in the groove. this happened to mine, but i just live with it. at first i was pretty bumbed, but got used to it after awhile. take a look at the pics in my garage, and talk to someone at Shelby to see if they have the kits available yet. good luck and i hope this was helpful.

Veryone is showing pics with the hood closed which does no good. Open the thing up so the rest of us can see how they mount.

My lower chin spoiler was purchased from Stage 3 Motorsports prepainted and it arrived just like it looks in the previously posted pic. No complaints...

Here come the finished pics

Alright guys, here are the finished pics. This is about two months after the install, so things aren't quite as pretty as they were at first. I took a lot, as this has almost turned into a how-to thread, so here are the pics with the hood open and everything I think you should see with a finished hood pin install on the outer bump stops. Let me know if you want pics of anything else.

Ok, so first, this is the install I'm modeling after. I saw this on a Super Snake at a mustang show.

As I didn't have a pretty integrated nut/washer thing, this is what I ended up with.

Now, obviously there is a nut (and washer) under this metal. I think the instructions on how to do this were detailed earlier in the thread, but this piece that the hood pin is attatched to is tubular, so you have to run a piece of string (fishing line) with a fish tape from this hole to the center of the car (where an opening big enough for the nut and washer is) and then use that to bring it out to where the bump stop is. It's a pain in the butt, and you have to remove a bunch of screws and stuff to make enough room to move everything, but it works!

Now, since this was installed in an aftermarket, two layer fiberglass hood, it made cutting the holes very tricky, as you actually have two holes per side. You have to make sure that the arc of the hood is accounted for in the size of the holes. Easier said than done. And yes, I know the holes aren't pretty! I haven't gotten around to touching them up with some paint....

Now for the pretty external pics! I went a bit crazy... I know, but here ya go.

I honestly get comments on them all the time. How they really add to how aggressive the thing looks, to (of course, girls) asking what they are and why I have them, and why they are so pretty. lol.

Anyways, I'm about to go and drill out the hole in the big pin so that the little pin will be able to sit flush on the plate on the hood... I know it's potentially weaken the pin, but I mean seriously... these things are rock solid, I don't see myself putting them to anywhere near breaking point anytime... ever.

Here's what the clearance looks like... talk about being nervous when drilling those holes!

you may want to rethink boring to whole out any bigger.
I thought about drilling the wholes out bigger on mine as well, but ther will be alot of slop. then they won't fit tightly at all. I think the only way to get them right is to have a solid pin with no whole and drill it for the correct angle. I don't know if you can even get a pin without whole already drilled.

another way is to maybe have the whole filled and redrilled if this is possible.

I've already thought this through... I think... haha. Once I bore out the holes, yes, there will be slope, but the beauty of it is the height of the pins is adjustable, so I'll tighten down the big pins about two turns. Then, when I slide the small pins in, they will have full contact with the plate on the hood, and 1/2 to full contact with the top of the pin. (depending on how awesome my drilling skills are.) I'd rather have the "slope" in the part that I can't see than the part I can, the utilitarian slop can't really get any worse than it is now, as only a tiny portion is actually making contact with the car anyways. Does anyone see a downside to doing things this way?

Hey, I think they look awesome. But I have to ask, why didn't you install the base plate so the groove was front to back instead of side to side? Since the plate sits on an angle, (it will on my hood too) if the groove was front to back the push pin would sit more even in the slots. Was this just a personel choice or was there some reason you had to do it side to side?
