Hood Pins install in outer hood stops?

Hey guys, I'm looking to install some Shelby hood pins in the outer hood stop holes of my car, the same place it's installed on the Super Snakes.

Here's a picture of the install location on the Super Snake, saw it at a mustang show and decided that's where I wanted them located.

And here's a closeup of the pin and where it meets the bumpstop hole.

I'm looking for a hood pin install guide that will help me install the pins in this location. What I'm really trying to figure out is how the heck they got the nut on the underside of this piece of metal. If you look at your car, it's hollow, with a bottom side and top side, so one of the nuts has to go inside this piece, and the other on top. Problem is, I don't see a hold big enough for me to fit the nut into. Here are some pictures of what the hole looks like with the hood stop removed.

Anyone got any suggestions? Has anyone installed them in this location? I really appreciate your responses! I really want to post pics of my new hood I have and front fascia, but would like to have the pins on there first. Thanks in advance!

My guess would be that the supersnake hoodpins probably are of a different design. Or, they may cut a hole in the bottom of the core support. Hard to say, but I bet I could figure something out if I had the pin and the car in front of me. Hopefully someone has done it and can tell you.

They don't look like they are a different design, they are the exact same thing from what I could see, they just have some sort of washer/ plate sitting above the contact with the car and below the nut. Other than that, everything looks to be the same.

I did heavy GT's and my first set in that location, tie some fishing line around the nut, use a coat hanger or a home electrical fish tape, slide the fish tape in the mounting hole and fish it towards the middle of the core support. Tape the end of the fishing line to the fish tape pull it back towards the mounting hole and then snip the fish line when it arrives to the opening.

I backed heavy's with a washer and simply pulled them both through together.

To get the pin to thread up to the nut i used a flat head screw driver through one of the nearby holes to simple get it started. From there you should be good in simply tightening everything up.

If you can, get a telescoping magnet (looks like an antenna) from your local sears or automotive supply store. Just in case the nut and washer get away from you.

Be careful pulling through, the core support gets thinner in some areas so you will get stuck a few times. Take your time.. It's not rocket science..

Here are some pictures of my hood, just went downstairs and took them. I just think the center would look way too cluttered if I put them in there, on the outside I think it would balance the appearance better. Also, I get some serious hood flutter on the sides at high speeds, especially if there is a cross wind, and I think having them out to the sides would help provide more stability.

Emay, that worked wonderfully, I had already removed the plastic cover where the hood latch is, but didn't see that the ends were open, so thank you very much for that! Did you just use washers on the top and bottom of the hole to secure the pin better? Or did you use something pretty and fancy like the picture of the one on the super snake I have above?

I can't exactly remember.. I think I only had a backing washer and not one on the top side. The nut covered well enough and your only worried about an upward pull..

Glad it worked out, sometimes you gotta get creative with this things.

Thanks very much, I have to thank all the regular contributors, cuz they helped me narrow it down to this one. Once I saw it on Roush Stage II's car, I knew that's what I wanted.

Thanks very much, Yup, I have to say man, I was already getting the Roush front fascia, and looking at a bunch of different hoods (including ours.) I have to say that when I saw the combo on your car, I knew I couldn't live without it. Yay for insurance money!

I had the shop weld in a "bung" so the threaded hood pin would screw down into it. easy! took 2 seconds. (to say ... "would you please weld in these bungs")
