I might be mistaken but I would have swore I read that the 3Vs VCT was only able to advance or retard intake and exhaust combined and not intake separately.

So wouldnt that only be DEPS and not also IPS? Or is that their way of saying its a single cam so it must be the intake? Its not a 4 valve so I dont see why they make the distinction of 'which' cam since it has one per head. Pretty much 'THE' cam to me.

I think we said the same thing but I'm thrown off by hearing IPS is also used.

* Exhaust phase shifting (EPS) system - the exhaust cam is the active cam being retarded.
* Intake phase shifting (IPS) system - the intake cam is the active cam being advanced.
* Dual equal phase shifting (DEPS) system - both intake and exhaust cams are phase shifted and equally advanced or retarded.
* Dual independent phase shifting (DIPS) system - where both the intake and exhaust cams are shifted independently.

I think that his information on the different types may have been from a textbook or something and is relevant to all VCT systems, not just Ford. The 3V only has one cam on each head, so there is no way it could control intake and exhaust independantly.
