FRPP Hot Rod Cams

I just got my hot rod cams. I called my local shop; ACA performance in newark, DE and they quoted the install which is just the cams no springs at $1000 without a tune, another 250 for the tune which includes 3 pulls on the dyno. I thought that sounded way to much. should I just install myself, get a flash tuner and find another performance shop to tweek it?

Did you tell them springs don't need to be removed. $1000 is way to much for a nsr cam install.

Forget 'local shop' either do it yourself or find a reputable shop that deals frequently w/ s197 mustangs.

You'll also need the spring compressor which I got. Reason is that you have to compress the spring and remove 3 cam followers (roller rocker look alikes). Doing this releases the tension that the springs are putting on against the cam

It is best to use the springs compressor, BUT if you dont have one, I have seen people do the swap without it. Need two people, one to push the cam into place, and one to start the bolts.

Just borrow the tools and do it yourself. I just did mine with usafimj's tool offer and it was easy. No reason to pay that much for the install. As for the tune, Tilman Speed, Bama Chips, or Brenspeed. As for the Dyno, I cant give any advice since I have not yet done it to mine.

That's crazy, We charge $500 for the cam install. Now i am not going to tell someone what to charge for tuning, as in my eye's, it's a price on your knowledge and experience.

The tuning is something any tuner worth a Crap can do very easy.

If you need a good tune to get you started let me know, We have done 75-100 Cam installs on the 3V's and are finishing up our first set of Hotrod Cams on a 5.4L Truck!

1,000 is rediculous for no springs, 1,000 is usually around the price of W/ springs.

If you want a shop in DE go to Performance Evolution in Middletown. It's where I have all my work done. He only deals with Fords so he knows Mustangs really well. My hot rod cam install was $400. Here's his website if you want to call or email him:

Since Bama Chips and Brenspeed don't sell the Hot Rod cams, would they still have a tune for them?

Good to know. I just added your site to my favorites list (along with Brenspeed, Bamachips and THIS site). But I'll be brutally frank here, the reality is most of my posts on this site right now are fantasy posts because I am trying to buy a house this year. I think that is going to take up all my fun tickets for the time being.
