cams, longtubes and prochamber..tell me what you think!!
I am thinking about doing the mac longtubes and o/r prochamber with the frpp hot rod cams, what kind or rwhp gains can I expect with my current setup and the shop I called said $1100-1200 install price which to me sounds steep, is this the going rate? He said that it would be $740 without the cam install which still sounds high....what do you guys think?

If you have the cash and not the time go for it. If it's the other way around DIY. Just get it done so we can hear that bad boy. Average HP gains are 30rwhp with hot rod cams and long tubes

My local tuner quoted 450 or so for longtubes and about 500 for NSR cams. So the price would be about 1,200-1,300 with tuning. Dynotunes here are 300 so I'm basing the tuning costs off of that.

if you add a meziere electric water pump/relay kit and steeda race plates to that equation then you will have about 360-365ish.

315 is pretty high for his amount of mods. I wonder if he got dynoed w/o a correction factor.

how hard is the install, how long would it take and what tools would I need? Also it will definitely need a tune, so can I drive it to the shop to do so after the install?

is there a need to change the springs and retainers with the hot rod cams? I am relatively novice when it comes to working on cars although I did do my UDP's, shifter and suspension with the help of a friend

im not sure about hot rods and springs, but the thing about hot rods is that they idle like a mean bitch, but don't put down as much as the NSRs (no springs required) like i have...but those dont idle as lopey/rough. More go, less show.
whatever you do, buy from 07StangGt, or --RAD Mustangs-- you'll get the best prices fo sho, just PM him first. |

No you dont need springs or retainers with hot rod cams. Just the cams and phaser bolts.
I would guess you should gain at least 40hp with hot rods and long tubes together. I gained 42 with long tubes and cams. I also just got a new local distributor for FRPP stuff so i can do some hot rod cams now for a little better price then before, shipping them out myself and stuff. either way should be a nice combo. |
