Starter for my car!

I dont think this has been discusses before and hope it hasn't but we all have seen thew cigar lighters in the car right above the audio system. We all have also seen the buttons we can buy that say Ford or Start engine, or anything else to make the car look better than with the plastic piece in there. I was wondering, Can I put a real Start button in there and have it work. Were the key turns the engine batteries on but doesnt turn over till you push that button. Like a real Racing car. I want to do this real bad and would like to know if someone has done it or would want to do it. This would just be the best modification for the car. A real live engine start button or swtich to start up the beast the lives under the hood. Everyone has a key to turn on a car. Who has a engine start switch or button in the middle of the dash or located in between the middle vents. If someone saw this done on a car please show me a picture or tell me how mush it will cost or even if its possible.

How does it work in your car? Do you have to turn the key on and it will only start and kill the engine when you hit the button or can you start the car with the key too. I was just wondering how that system sets it up with the whol operation of the car. Also did you install it yourself or have someone do it for you and how much?

insert the key, click it into the on position and PRESS START! all there is too it.

oh and of course, those with manuals, you still have to push in the clutch!

and I installed it with a buddy of mine.

all it requires is minor trimming of the cigarette lighter hole to fit the starter button in. splice into the starter switch, find a 12v source and ground it and you are good to go!

to kill the engine, turn the key off.

you can still crank the engine on by turning the key after you install this button, which is good to have in case something goes wrong with the button. but I've had it on for almost a year with no problems!

use it evertime to start the stang

How much do you have to trim and what did you do it with?

you have to open up the hole on the left and right side. can't really say how much but i just cut a few tiny pieces here and there until it slid in.

i used a pair of wire cutters, worked fine.

Is it illegal to have an ignition switch and a start button in the car. I wanted to really go with a hard core racing look and feel. I was thinking an application in which you put the key in to unlock the car, then you flip the ignition switch to turn on the battery and here the batteries switch then hit the engine fire button...Can you do this or is it not possible?

with what you showed me, that looks like extensive work with the starter mechanism and the key hole. a lot of snipping and wiring to make it possible.

your better off with this kit rather than messing around wtih the starter mechanism and run into problems with the electrical system with what your trying to acomplish later on down the road
