Gas Milage

Two questions,
First one is I was filling my Tank and it stopped at 3/4 full. Why I dont know, and how much should I get on that tank. I drove from Warrenton, VA to Jacksonville, NC and got about 340 miles on one tank...90% HWY.

City driving sucks, alot of stop and go to get on base in the morning and in the afternoon to go home, commute is 7-8 miles one way. So what do I need to do to get better milage?
Ive never had a v8, and this one is a manual, so when should I shift. I drive it like my Mazda 3 5 speed I used to have, shifting at low rpm's.
Thanks in advance.

Your highway sounds good to me. Your driving a Mustang GT now so don't expect amazing MPG...i usually shift at 3K on my shifts when im driving normal...but with normal and spirited driving i get 16-17 mpg with highway and city mixed...

If you want amazing MPG like 19 - 22 mpg city with a little highway drive like all the corvette owners you see around hahaha seriously slow acceleration and shift around 2700 - 3000 rpm...and stay in the speed limit..

My '03 4.6 gets 21/23 city and 27/28 hwy and I think that's amazing! , There are people getting 29/31 hwy and they state they drive at like 60mph down the interstate.

The earlier S197 cars have a split gas tank and if you are filling it too fast it will cut the pump off early becuase the gas has to go from one side of the tank to the other. I believe ford corrected this problem with the later S197 cars, as far as your mileage it sounds about normal to me.

20 psi?! That's a good way to shred a tire...check the sticker in your door sill...32 psi is where they need to be.

No I didnt but that doesnt mean we cant talk about it I'm happy with the Gas Mileage. I mean honestly, considering what we have, it's not bad. It's better than a truck and sure as heck more fun

Best way my father found to get optimum gas mileage is to shift at 2500 RPM and keep a decent but not fast acceleration. He pulled 22 city and 28-29 ish on the HWY. Not too bad.

I thought i had the fuel filling problem that most 05-06 mustang owners had. Turns out i just never ran my tank down far enough. With the DTE reading 0, i have used 15 gallons. So I have 1 gallon of wiggle room to find a gas station to fill up, for a total of 16 gallons. In typical city driving i get just over 200 miles per tank.

There is a TSB on the fuel fill issue.

Mine does it occasionally. When it does act up and the nozzle shuts off prematurely, I simply turn the fuel nozzle parallel to the ground and resume filling. 60% of the time it works every time.
