Safe
What is the safest supercharger setup for our cars? i know the new edelbrock one only runs like 6lbs of boost and makes like 450hp. ive been lookin at a lot of them like paxton, kb, procharger, and saleen. just curious on how much hp some of them make at how much boost.

the edelbrock unit isnt performing as expected...notice how not a single damn person posts results on a stock motor like ours? tillman has had nothing but trouble with them, they were way over-hyped
I would look at Techco, Saleen, or Whipple...The Techco unit put down 446rwhp @ 6psi They actually post their numbers and dont hide shit and shoot it to you straight, that is why I support them and will wear their banner on my car

Pick a charger and get on the dyno with a good tuner. As Chad said, none of them are unsafe, unless you put them in the wrong hands or push the limits purposely.

I agree with the above statements from Emay/Chad, pick a charger based on what you want to use it for...you can search this forum for the endless debates on which one is the best for what purpose.
Then get a good tuner and shoot for conservative/safe tune for your setup. You'll be happy with whatever you pick and longevitiy is based on tune and your right foot.

Having an experienced tuner is the most important thing with F/I. I like the Whipple and this Techco blower is looking to be the cat's balls. Saleen uses a Whipple compressor just mounted upside down to send the air charge up, then down through extra long intake runners. Roush and Edelbrock use the new Eaton TVS compressor which has a nice looking inlet design which keeps internal pressures to a minimum.
I think the Techco will make the most power per lb of boost just by looking at the design of the system. Centrifugals will put less stress on the engine during normal driving as they don't really produce boost at lower rpm's. They will however create high stress in the upper rpm range as that's where they really produce the bulk of their power. Turbocharging is probably the least offensive to a stock bottom end because they are not stressing the crankshaft and using hp to make hp with a belt drive.

wth...
Silly hats only.... ![]() big +1 on having a good tuner and not pushing the limits on the unit. They will all run similar stress to the car, it's just in how it's tuned.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY!!!
Won't throw any rods taking it safe and keeping the boost/power at manageable levels. Only reason a rod would be thrown, is if it would have failed regardless of the power output, plenty of people have put tons of miles on their FI setups with absolutely no engine issues. Just research your tuner carefully, be sure they're the right guys to tune the car.

The Roush TVS is extremely dangerous, do not buy it. I want to be one of the few and the proud.

Excessive revs will kill off your rods faster than boost. I've got over 30,000 miles since I installed my KB, the tune needs a tweak, and I beat it like it owes me money...everything in the engine is still where Ford put it.

That first part is so not true........ There are quite a few people that have thrown rod's with forced induction............ The people that seem to have good luck are the ones that have either put there car in the hands of a VERY professional tuner or just plain got lucky. Anytime your car is pushing 100+hp over stock your playing with fire. No matter what.

Come on Mickey. I'm seriously thinking you're trying to joke around here ... There are many cases of bent rods at 10-12 psi which isn't a stupid amount. It's a chance we all take. Just look at Willy, was running something like 11 psi with a turbo, had a spot on dyno tune from Justin at VMP Tuning, and he bent a rod. No other damage. It just goes to show you that there are tolerance differences in the rods from the OEM.
