Help on the neverending quest for HP

Alright, so i know there are a ton of threads about this but I get pretty overwhelmed trying to read it all so I'm just making my own!

I have an '07 GT/CS thats stock as of right now. The first thing I want to do to it is get a catback exhaust for it. I had my heart set on a MagnaFlow MagnaPack catback system but now i am unsure. It says it gives about 11 hp. is that decent?? PLUS i dont want it to be tooo loud b/c i love listening to my music. What are your thoughts on a good, not TOO loud (but def. badass loud) exhaust that can give me a nice gain too. This is big bucks for me so i dont want to screw it up.

Well what kind of exhaust sound are you looking for?

Deep and throaty? Raspy and aggressive? Or maybe a sound that resembles a racecar?

Its hard for me to decide on that. Race car would be awesome but I think that might be too much. I guess I would have to say Deep and Throaty might be what I'm looking for. I just don't want to get something and have it end up sounding..fake...as in (not literally) rice burner fake

Well something like flowmasters or boomtubes would fit in the "deep" category. My dads car has flowmasters, those sound pretty sweet. First video is flowmasters, second is boomtubes.

an axleback isn't going to gain you any power. if you want power and an exhaust, change out the mid-pipe. don't buy flows or pypes violaters either.

Also Alequar your not going to get much HP from mufflers, only 5 probably, which is barely noticable. A CAI/Tune, which are +\- 600 dollars, typically gain 25-30HP. This also depends on which CAI you get. A lot of people go with the C&L Racer nowadays

sweet. that actually helps alot. too bad i can't hear them in person though. Thanks man. So what would be an example of a 'race car' sound and the 'aggressive' sound. You dont need to put videos i can find those on my own but its awesome that you did last time.

wow really show me anybody thats had any proven dyno gains from axlebacks on these cars... like i just said. you will not get a gain from an axleback. they are for sound only. you won't see 5, let alone 10.

Your welcome, I had no problem doing that, I had nothing else to do on the PC. I swear I heard the boomtubes sounding deep before, but I guess they do sound racecar-ish.

Yea i've read you don't get too much HP from the exhaust but any little gain is good. I just crave more sound mostly but I'll take the 10 hp gain. I'm def. going to get a CAI too. I dont have many mods that I want to do. Mostly the CAI and Exhaust and a tuner and I'd be pretty set.

I actually forgot that the axlebacks don't gain even 5 HP. Jucostud corrected me on that.

exhaust is a personal choice, the best you can do is to listen to all the different types and chose what you like best. I think theres also a stickey about exhaust here to. I went with the jba axle backs, they sound great to me and a good price to.

My dads car is a white gt/cs too Alequar. It made 302rwhp(355 crank) with CAI/Tune, Underdrive Pullies, and Delete Plates(there are 2 plates under the intake manifold which restrict airflow because they have butterfly valves in them, and the delete plates are OEM castings of them without the valves).

ahh nice! I see everyone's car and love them on here and tell you the truth I always wanted black but when I saw that white GT/CS (and the price) I ended up buying it the first night. I guess I've got a lot of research to do on modding the car and all My family is good with cars but I somehow missed that gene i guess

Thanks for all the input though everyone

I have no issue helping someone if their inquiry involves any of the knowledge I have concering these cars. I know a good bit about these cars until you get up to the cylinder head department.
