Just springs....?

Suspension- As we all know the 05 GT's suspension is horrible. I was wondering if I should first start with lowering by purchasing just springs first and then worry about shock's, struts and all the other package parts later? This is a less expensive mod that should help handling and appearance and later I can buy shoes.

save your money until you can afford a package deal that will give you everything you need to have the car completely balanced out. cause once you lower the car, then you need to fork over another $85+ for a new alignment, and rear end suspension parts (lower control arm brackets, panhard bar, panhard brace, etc.)

if you just buy springs, your car will be fine, but it wont feel right on the rear end without the other parts that are needed. your axle will be off centered

I lowered mine with just springs and don't have any issues with the rear end?? It rides pretty smooth for a 2 inch drop and I have no wheel hop or traction issues that I didn't have before.

if you just buy springs, your car will be fine, but it wont feel right on the rear end without the other parts that are needed. your axle will be off centered
So upon further inspection, it seems that the left rear tire is closer to the fender lip than the right rear so I guess the rear end is shifted to the left maybe a 1/4 of an inch. Do you need an adjustable panhard or what to get this back in alignment?

panhard bar and brace. adjustable or non-adjustable, your choice. either one will put that rear end back into alignment.

i highly recommend BMR.

i'm suprised you dont have wheel hop. majority i know that lowered their cars still have wheel hop. but lower control arms take care of that. but also when you install lower control arms for a lowered car, you need the relocation brackets to give the control arms that upper diagonal angle.

my car axle seems off and i hav'nt even touched the suspension, i think all that is over rated especially for street use. I'm just going to lower it on some wider wheels just like my previous stang. i never had any problems.

I bought BMR springs and they kept the factory hour glass shape in the rear spring which they said helps control wheel hop?!? Thats the main reason I bought BMR because none of the other mfr. had the hour glass shape.....
I do burnouts and slide it sideways daily and it has no wheelhop at all.......As soon as I install the supercharger, that might change!

just an FYI to Bossman and miafan, this is what is written on BMR's website:

"By nature, a panhard rod will alter rear end position as ride height changes. This makes it necesarry to use an adjustable panhard rod when lowering your vehicle as it allows you to re-center the rear end. Adjustable panhard rods also become a "must-have" part if you are trying to fit the widest tires possible in the wheelwell."

Thanks for that. I would have never known my rearend was off center unless I read this post.

How bad is it to run it off center?

Thanks for all the input fella's. We'll see how money goes this winter and if I have enough, I'll do the whole thing. Have you herd anything bad about Steeda springs? There are some light weight ones that will lower about 1.5", or do you think 2" is better? I suppose it depends on the wheels that I buy too. Those will be last.

I had the same issue as miafan,my axle was a little to the left when my car was at stock height,i lowered the front 2 inches and the rear 2 1/2 inches, the axle doesn't seem to have moved over anymore than it was before. All i did was springs (sportlines). It's been 6 months now,no probs, but when i order my 20's in a week or so,i'll still get the bmr adjustable panhard bar and camber bolts for the front. Then maybe a strut tower brace, and control arms, then sub frame connectors.I'll be road racing the car later on.
Oh,no wheel hop with the 17 inch ballon tires......just some sliding when the corning is pushed to the limit. The ballon 235/55/17 tires are terrible for corning,on time i though the tire was going to roll off the rim....

Yea man 235's are pizza cutters and hate that they sell the GT that way but I guess if they gave it better wheels and tires it would add to the msrp. 2 1/2 inch drop is not too much? I was thinking 1.5 in back and 1.2 or something in front.

Just letting ya'll know, as far as alignments are concerned Firestone has a lifetime deal for $149.99... for as long as you own the vehicle, no holds barred, they'll align it. See if they'll go down to 140... they usually will as they love to sell em

~Wes, Firestone employee if you haven't guessed
