Help on new CAI install

ok i just picked up the WMS intake, says no tune required, i know i seen a thread about the TB messing with the mass air sensor on here one time. just put it on yesterday and i'm getting a engine light and a wrench light on the dash, guess this means this is a needs a tune light? i disconnected the neg. on the battery and the lights went away, reved up fine backed up fine but when i put in in 1st both lights came on, now it wont rev past 3500 in 1st and 3800 or 4000 in 2nd. any help out there?

yeah thing i don't like about it is you've got to cut and splice the wires to the plug all the wires seemed connected,

you're cutting and splicing your MAF wires!?!?!

Save yourself time, money, and tears, get a full CAI like JLT, Steeda, or C&L, get the tune for it. It'll be straight plug and go. If you're splicing wires for an intake install, there's something seriously wrong with that kit.

I dont believe anyone here has that kit. I do remember reading about it a while back. Is it possible you have your wires crossed?

Yeah i'll pull the car in the garage in a hour or two and get some pics imo its the way ford should have done it in the first place makes more sence to have it up front, new intake style and old filter set-up doesn't make sence to me

*sense*

What exactly did you have to splice in? Is the factory MAF not plug and play with that intake? and if it comes with a bigger one do the connectors not match? There shouldnt be anything you need to splice with the MAF, it should all be plug and play...

No, I understood what you were asking, my point was that yes, you're going to need a tune so why buy a CAI advertised as no-tune required when you can get more proven gains without cutting up a 75$ piece of electronics?

Difference of opinion I suppose, and hindsight is 20/20. The wrench usually means you're going into limp mode which is why you couldn't go above a certain RPM.

on a somewhat related note, I have a spare MAF sensor sitting around since my s/c kit had it's own.

I have heard good power numbers out of that intake, so I wouldn't bash it too much guys. I doubt it can compete with a racer or something of that nature, but its not a bad intake. Very expensive though.

craker i'm sorry i was a little up tight and it's my fault but i didn't go with the normal style intake beacuse i this one makes sense to me i know i'm new here but this isn't my first stang, it's number 7 for me, just the first one that you can't just put a CAI on and ride, the website says it's and no tune required set up so that's what i was going with and it wasn't to expensive, i got it on ebay for half price

It is a good looking kit, and if their advertised numbers are accurate then it certainly performs well. I'm not so sure you'll gain 20 horses as they claimed with no tuning though (I may be mistaken on if that dyno sheet was with or without tune). My advice would still be to get the most for your money and go for either an upgraded inlet that allows more air and get the tuner, or at least get the tuner for it and maximize what you're gaining from that CAI.
