cleaning JLT filter

My air filter has like 1/8inch of shit caked on it, figure I ought clean it. Do I need to use the S&B cleaning kit that JLT sells, or is any filter cleaner/oil kit (K&N, etc.) the same? Would it come clean enough for me to switch to a different color oil?

kn for me on wifes injen intake (honda) and both of my vehicles.

my method... swish the filter first.. then blow with low pressure from the inside. then spray liberal amounts of cleaner on and wait 15-20 mintues.. then, use the shower head from the inside... then I swish it again. get some fresh water and let it soak.. then I spray cleaner on it again and swish again....

then I apply a LIGHT coat of oil... hit it with the hair dryer for about 5 minutes, let it sit for an hour.

never once have I fouled a maf and the filter usually looks white after I the second wash.
