Fuel filter

my car has 18000 miles. i had to get a new battery from ford cuz mine was all effed up.. they called me and told me i should get a new fuel filter too and it was going to be 60 bucks. i told them no i don't want one cuz i don't have 60 bucks. do i really need a new one and is this something i could do myself for cheaper than 60 bucks?

It's in the middle of the vehicle under the car running in the fuel line under the drivers seat. And it is A LOT cheaper to do it yourself its like a 10$ part..im pretty sure the service manual in your glovebox says to change it at 30K miles...

I have 21K miles on my car and have been running 93 octane since 7K and shes been fine...im gonna change it at 25K and be done with it for awhile

Just buy a Motorcraft fuel filter. Jack up car. Unbolt plastic shield on driver's side frame rail. The fuel filter will be looking at you in the eyes. Just squeeze the green clips with a rag in your hand for when the gas spills out onto your face. Than put the new one in. Pay attention to the flow arrows !!

It is a pretty simple procedure, but it is really hard to get the stupid filter out off of the line. I changed mine at 15k and i used a filter i bought from the ford service department for like 20 bucks. You have to use a lot of force to get the filter out b/c as you try to pull off of one side, it connects it more on the other side. That probably doesn't make sense now, but you will soon find out. Good luck. Oh also, make sure to pull the fuse for the fuel pump and try to start your car until it runs out of fuel. If you dont, the fuel line will still be under pressure when you try to remove the filter and gas will go everywhere.

I think the service interal for our fuel filters is 15k miles. Seems abnormal, since most cars are 30, but it is what it is. But like others said, it's a $10-15 part and takes 10 minutes to change.

they are actually vinyl lines, but either one cannot be clamped.

The idea behing pulling the fuel pump fuse is that you can do that and run the engine untill it dies, thus relieveing pressure in the line. If you aren't afraid of a little gas you don't have to do that, just be ready for a good spurt to come out when you pull the line off.

It's not that much gas. Just use a rag and have a back up one ready.

funny I ran across this post, I JUST did mine not 10 minutes ago hahaha, we were slow at work so I pulled my car in and put it on the rack. If im not mistaken the motorcraft fuel filter was like 24 bucks for a regular customer, 12 bucks for me.

its the long black plastic cover that is right under the drivers door on the bottom of the car. Couple of 10mm bolts and nuts, and some push pins. It covers the fuel lines.
