Ford Racing 3.73 Gears

Hey guys, i am in the process of trying to buy gears/pay for install.. I was quoted $600 for parts and labor by my shop. Here is the situation, i am currently 20 years old and dad does NOT want me to do this(then again he was against EVERYTHING i did to my car, and really hated that i lowered it). He thinks i am "Wasting" money..

My shop said i can make an appointment in the morning so i can get my car back later in the day, and he pretty much guarantied NO whine, he said he does at least 4 a week and never have whine so that gives me faith..

I am in the process of selling my Playstation 3 and My xbox 360 to get money for this mod of mine.

The thing that is scary is i have been told on my other forum that i should ALWAYS buy/use the Master Bearing install kit to replace everything. My car is an 06 GT Automatic with only 30,800miles on the odometer, i read that kit is only for cars with 60k and above on the odo. My installer said i won't need it.

What would you guys do, should i just bring him my ring n pinion with the master bearing kit and oil? He said if i bring my parts it will be $400 for install..

Help me out, i really can't afford to make an expensive mistake and have dad find out.. Shh, i know- i am bad but it frustrates me since i pay my car payment, gas, my mods i want and when i was making more- my insurance..

I just want to mod my car and make it quicker..

You work hard for the $$ you spend on your car; I think you'll be disappointed with the amount of $$ you'll spend, and the gratification you'll get w/ 3.73's.

...at least 3.90's auto/ 4.10's std..

I'd go 3:90 or 4:10 and if you do it get the bearing and seal kit no you don't need it but the extra security is there. And your dad is right hate to say it but he wants you to put your money into something worth wild, like buying a house. I think that's why he hates you putting money in your car

I did mine myself and did not do the bearing kit, I only had 10k in miles though, but I would guess that 30k wont be too bad. And for the money you are spending, if you are going to stay NA then do a bigger ratio so you at least feel as if you got your moneys worth.

From an auto owner myself go with FRPP #M-4209-G410A ONLY!!!!!! On a side note I started with 4.10's then went 4.30's and now im on 4.56's! Dont 'fear the gear' and dont waste your money on 3.73's on a modular motor car,and DONT do 3.90's thet are not Ford gears and will whine like a bitch. These are not old pushrod engines they need and love gear.

well I'm not going to tell you what gears to get............lol.............but yeah thats not a horrible price for a gear install. Don't worry about the bearing kit, it sounds like the guy knows what he is doing. Also, if for some reason it does mess up, take it back to him and have him fix HIS mistake. You will be fine. Sounds like you already bought some 3.73 gears?

Even from going 3.31s to 3.73s? I heard it is a great increase in acceleration and will be VERY noticeable..

Def. not 3.90s, i want to stick with FRPP gears.. There is a frpp 3.90 but its made by motive.. so thats a no go..

I guess he has a point, but i mean i am only 20.. especially with this economy- a house is out of the question for a while..

I am not staying N/A forever, i plan to do a blower down the line, in about 25,000 miles.. I will be out of powertrain warranty.. so my dad won't freak out about me voiding my motor warranty..

Damn that is a high fricken ratio, 4.56's.. that would RAPE my mileage.. wouldn't it?

3:73's are a good choice, knowing you are going FI. With that said the shop probably has extra parts laying around from previous installs.
You should be OK.

Thumbs down

Recommend Royal Purple to all Differential changes, no smelly additive needed. Royal Purple hands down..... No noises, no whining, just a hec-of-a low temperature at all speeds
