Depends on your State. It won't here in Alaska.

you need mil eliminators to send a false signal to the PCM. Since OBD II inspection is just a plug in they only check what the the CPU reads not your tail pipe like the old days. So MIL eliminators or swap a catted mid pipe in...is the only way...

MIL's won't work on our cars. You need a "Emessions" tune that will fool your car into thinking it ran all the OBDII tests and passed. Bamachips used to do it but I don't know if he does anymore.

that is exactly how i passed in NC. If it sends a false signal reading aka the right resistance range reading..to show that the cats are there...tell me how that doesn't work for our cars...its the same principle in each vehicle. The emissions tune is just turning your rear O2 sensors on so the MILS will read on the computer when testing....problem is if your O2 sensors are on with a OR pipe youll have a CEL and won't pass. So MIL eliminators take care of that as explained above....or you will have to get a catted mid pipe to swap for inspection. Brenspeed has even confirmed the information that i am providing...

I bought one of these. Now I haven't put them in 'cause I dont have any rear sensors. For these you need to install the rear O2 sensors and then wire this in. I got it for when it is time for my smog.

If brenspeed has confirmed your info how come they took MIL eliminators off of thier website? Mayhaps because they only work about half the time?

A MIL eliminator just fakes the straight ~.5 volt signal that a rear 02 will put out with a functioning cat. I don't personally know if they work on our cars or not, or why they wouldn't, but I have heard that they weren't.
We took my brothers LS1 Camaro to get tested and it passed fine, with longtubes and offroad Y pipe. The car was tuned by a guy locally using HP tuners, and the PCM thinks all the monitors are passed (his car has no EGR, no cat, no smog, nothing), so when they plug their tester in they see passed monitors and send you on your way. Different states will allow different amounts of monitors to be "not ready", I know in IL it is 1. So the information I have been giving on here is that if you have your car tuned by a place like brenspeed with an offroad pipe, they turn the rear 02s off to eliminate the MIL, and I have always assumed that it would just say "not ready" for the cat monitor, making it the one youre allowed, which = pass. I went off this assumption based off what happens with the LS1 cars. I recently found out this was false. I worked on an LS1 trans am yesterday, and cleared a code then read the monitor status and they all ran instantly, so it was a passing test. Just for shits I cheked my car (this was using a Snap on Solus scantool) and it listed the 02, cat, and 02 heater all as "not ready" which would REJECT you, you only FAIL for failed monitors, not ready will have them send you away to return another day when they are ran. This has me a bit perturbed, because I assumed that the Mustang tuners would do the same as the LS1 tuners and fake the monitors, I didn't know they just wanted to MIL to not come on. So now I am going to research whether or not the Ford PCM can be programmed to pass all the monitors the same way that LS1 PCMs can. I can have the guy taht tuned my brothers LS1 tune my car if that's the case, because he has the Ford software as well. I will let you guys know what I find. If that won't work, I guess I'll have to figure something out that works. I'll take a pair of variable resistors (one for the heater, one for the 02 signal), or I could even get ahold of a sensor signal simulator used for testing PCMs and adjust them while watching the datastream from the PCM with a scantool and the 02 readings with a digital oscilliscope, and adjust them untill I get it to a point that will pass both monitors. But I'd much rather just have the car tuned to run them, that'd be easier. There are also some other methods, like the Honda guys use sparkplug anti-foulers to space the 02 out which keeps enough oxygen off of it to fool it, I can test that theory too if I have to since I have the ability to run the same tests that the emmisions place will, so we'll see how far I have to go when emmisions time comes for me.

From what I understand, when a tuner goes to make a emissions tune you cannot run it all the time (On our S197s). I'm not sure why because if you ask directly in the open if a tuner will do it they will say no. Because its illegal if he knows you run that car on the street with no emissions control. But if you were to ask politely in a more private setting, you can get it done.
So, you can get a tune like the LS1's that fools the monitors. But, you have to reload your performance tune after you leave the testing facility. |

i don't think i've known anyone who passed with o/r pipes...you shouldn't be due emissions for a while...my 04 never had to have it until this year i think...just on the last year get a two year registration or something and figure it out

Towelly, if that's the case then I won't have to bother with all the shit I said I'd try. When my time comes I'll have someone that does it to LS1s fool the monitors then just throw my tune back in.
Burnin yours, I've made catless cars pass the old stye sniffer test before. It's not easy, but possible

it can be done but most people around here don't bother...you know in flagstaff, i think it is, they don't do emissions.
