Have you all made any decisions if you're going to shoot for building towards a specific race class?

It could be a spring too. Did you ever have your heads tested? If you did, the bind rate will speak volumes. If you are binding under 40 thousands, then that could be it right there. When I checked my Livernois R heads, that was the one thing I wasn't happy with (bind at .0039) and am swapping the srpings and retainers for something a little stronger but looser. Let me know if you want to talk weight. I've been through the ringer and have all the info. I dropped almost 500 lbs off the car now and when I start next season, the car will weigh in at 3200 lbs w/o driver. Obviously, fiberglass panels and a front clip are the big ones, but I was amazed at the weight savings of a flaming river pinto rack and lightweight brakes. I shaved almost 180 lbs right there. If you have a 9" - you also want to gun drill your axles.

Good news (not the leaking valves) LOL - just that it is all is was and the problem was found. Good job. New valves easy to swap and good to go. You should check your bind rate and spring pressure while you have the head off IMO.
