Roush "Off-Road" exhaust installation with pics and video

Picked up a Roush Off-Road exhaust from an excellent member.

Big props to him as he shipped it once we had an agreement before he was even paid.

Did the install in my driveway on my home-made wooden ramps. I love the sound in the driveway...going for a ride.

I know many like the Extreme better...I'll see how this goes and maybe add a catted H or X to go with it (I have emissions testing here in Atlanta - cats mandatory)

Pics of installation:

My homemade car ramps...high enough to easily do exhaust, and also get to the bolts just aft of the H-Pipe.

Tools:

16MM Deep Socket
I used some white lithium grease to lube the exhaust hanger mounts
Rust Penetrating "stuck bolt" lubricant spray
Torque wrench

I lubed up all the bolts and clamps and let them soak for 15 minutes.

Then you loosen all the bolts with the 16MM deeep socket. - 4 just aft of the H-pipe (2 on each center pipe clamp), one on the front and rear of each muffler, and one on each of the exhaust tip clamps:

Exhaust tip clamp:

4 bolts just aft of H-Pipe. Note: There is a "button release" on a metal strap - like on a metal vacuum cleaner tube. You gently pull it out to release it so the center clamps can slide aft if needed.

Clamp in front of muffler:

Comparison of stock Roush can vs. Off-Road. Off road on RIGHT:

All done:

Yeah, the video camera is not properly conveying how much deeper and raspier it is. It sounds lots better - especially when driving.

Go for it.

They are made by Borla anyway...it is just a Borla "Stinger" (Also known as Borla "S type" exhaust) setup with different tips.

If you Google search for Borla 11750 you will find it with tips...available at Summit, Jegs, and a zillion other places...maybe even a few of the forum sponsers can steer you correctly and hook you up.

yea i like the x pipe, but mac sounds good too. Ive wanted to try borla stingers for awhile just the price is kinda high. Its so hard choosing as exhaust for this one, cuz it has to be just right.

I have to have cats since there is emission testing here...but the next question is X pipe or H pipe, and by which manufacturer?

I will eventually add ARH / American Racing full length headers.

X pipe. You have the stingers, so you have the first step towards a man's exhaust. Now you will just need longtubes and an X pipe and you will never want tog et out of your car.

Some folks have told me the X sounds rice...and they say get the H for a more "old school" sound. I need to spend some time on youtube and at some car shows and find out what I like.

Others swear by the X.

X pipe doesn't sound rice at all. Rice sounds like a long, continuous fart. With the wrong mufflers, an X pipe sounds like shit but I would describe it more as a euro car sound than rice. But with the right muffler, it sounds smooth, aggressive, and awesome. To me H pipes are too deep, crackly, and drone a lot. They sound more like a redneck pickup truck. I don't get that "old school sound", most old muscle cars had straight exhaust, no crossover pipe. That sounds like 2 4-bangers fighting each other. They usually sounded real choppy and weren't all that deep either because of high compression. You want to sound like a muscle car, then you need a lopey cam to make up for the smoothness of EFI, real high compression, and quieter mufflers.

An X pipe with stingers sounds purely awesome.
