Let's here it from the auto GTs
To anyone who installed cams in their automatic gt- What are the pros and cons of the selection you made from your own experince driving the car?
I have read so many posts on numerous different websites that I cant even remember what i read. It seems most people are happy with the sound of their cam but not as happy about the performance. (of course i will check with the vender to make sure i get what is going to work best bu i wanted to here it from you guys that paid the price for the rest of us) I have an 05 GT with the following MODs: CAI, shorty headers, TB spacer, factory H pipe-no cats, homemade delete plates, flowmasters,SCT tune, 4:10 gears, eibach springs,18x9.5 y2ks w/nittos, lead foot. I took it to the track once just to see and ran the best of 8.9 in the 8th at 80MPH. It is not my DD and it is not a serious track racer. I do not want to spend 1K on the sound of my car... i want drivable performance that i do not loose anything else through the RPM curve. Most cams seem to perform worse than stock until 4500 rpm not great for a stock auto tranny... Thank you very much for your time and opinon... |

You have the 4.10s so you are ahead of the game. You can always look at like the stage I cams in a group.
Thumpr cams, you are going to loose power down low. You could try stage I but you will still notice power loss down low. Hot rod cams people dont usually complain to much about the loss. I think with the 4.10s you might be good. Think either, NSR's, Hot rods, or SPR stage I. |

People who look for cams just so they can sound good give up a little on performance as compared to people who get cams for other applications. I'm not saying that you're not going to gain power with thumpers or hot rods, I just think if you are strictly looking for performance, particularly low end gains, a Stage 1 NSR or some kind of custom grind will benefit you more. I went with a Comp Stage 1 cam because I didn't care as much about the idle as much as the areas I was looking to gain power in.

You went with the NSR stage 1? If so what did you notice from it-good or bad? It seems like all the cams are getting from 20-40 horses- so basically they are the same for hp- The only difference seems to be that you can pick the RPM zone you want your car to be in to work with other parts???

Any autos with NSR stage IIs? do you really need a converter or do they work ok with stock- for everyday driving purposes?

I was hoping people with automatic cars could say, "ya i tried this cam and it drives great around town" or "tried this cam and it sucks for driving around town because of yada yada yada"...everyone just keeps saying the same thing- go for this or go for that- I just would like to know what people have tried with the stock converter and how it worked out. I do want the gains but driving an automatic car with a miss matched cam sucks worse than having more HP. I was really hoping to hear what your experience was driving your car german after your mods.
