original driveshaft
is it normal for me to get under the car, put one hand on the back shaft, one hand on the front shaft and bench press it getting a 1/4 inch movement in the carrier bearing? and a slop noise while it being pushed up? like lifting your boot out of mud?

Yes. I've talked to my dealer about this. So, if they're not Mickeyfucking me around, the answer is yes.
It's also the clunk that is heard when shifting the manual equipped S197's.
