New Steering Shaft?

Reading UrbanRedneck's thread about incoming tech reminded me about the 2010 GT's having a damper in the steering shaft that is 25% stiffer than the 2005-2009's and that really helped steering response in the new GTs and GT500.

Any ideas how much one of those 2010 steering shafts costs?

my thread about what now?

I can try and get a price from Ford. Not sure if it is interchangable though.

Your thread about the parts you ordered. Incoming tech.

The tail end of the thread currently has people talking about the GT500 strut mounts being 28% stiffer than the GTs and that improved steering response. Reminded me of an article quoting a Ford engineer that worked on the 2010 GT500 and how they used a stiffer steering shaft damper to really tighten up steering response.

I didn't want to threadjack so I reposted a question that nobody really answered before.

A price would be good to know before I worry any more about it. If it's $150 or something I may try it, if it's $500 I won't think about it any more.

If I remember right I don't think it was the whole shaft. I think it was just a piece at the bottom end where it bolts up. Don't quote me on this but that is the info that is in my fuzzy head.

It was like a rubber puck sandwhiched between two sections of the steering shaft -- now having never seen the steering shaft, I should keep quiet, but I was thinking it would be nice to swap that puck out and be done with it. But I haven't seen boo about this at all.

Mustangs have a small rubber puck sandwiched between the two halves of the steering shaft. This piece provides some isolation so the driver doesn't feel every pebble in the road. But how much isolation is too much? Apparently, the old Mustang was too isolated because for 2010, that rubber puck has been stiffened by 26 percent on all Mustangs. This move should increase steering precision.
