What for the kill?

My best friend has a 2003 lightning with a CAI. I have an '07 mustang gt stock with the 3.55's. What do I need to do to be able to beat him. I won't race him untill i reach 3,000 miles on the car so that gives me a couple weeks to buy some mods. I will switch to royal purple at 3,000 miles also.

A set of 3:90-4:30 gears would do it!Also a CAI & tune also would do it!

you would need another 100HP since he's running a blower!

he's running a c&l cai and he said it gave him an extra 4 boost. I'm not gonna get gears yet since i have plains of FI later. I have a manual so i don't want 4:10's. since i have 3.55's i don't see going to 3.73's much of a change to do it anytime soon. So my only hope is an extra 100 horse... I guess i should just save up for a blower to put me over 400hp.

Well they might be supercharged but thats just to make up for the 1 ton weight difference. If you can really drive your car you should be at his rear tires with the nose of your car.

I took on an lightning at the racetrack when I first got my 05 stang two years ago. he had a C&L intake and tune.

all I had was a K&N intake, pullies and an axleback exhaust, and I lost to him twice! about a car & 1/4 length. even if I had a C&L intake or a JLT with an intake, I would still have probably lost.

1 ton weight difference?? i'd imagine the lightning would be in the weight range or even a little lighter than the mustang

yeah, it is hard to get traction to the rear wheels on a truck because there is no weight back there

thats true, as some of the best drag racers in the world say "its no problem getting enough power to win the race, the problem is getting enough traction"

his truck will most likely spin unless he

1) is a very good driver

or

2) gets smart and puts something heavy in the back, like sand bags

Lightning weighs over 4500 lbs. I borrowed my mechanic's 99 Lightning last week for a couple of days while he had my car. Doesn't take much to get them into the 12s. His best is 12.3 for the 1/4

just get a decent shot of nitrous and some sticky tires. that should even up the odds a bit

The mustang weighs roughly around 3750 lbs with you in it, and like forensicsteve said, if the lightning weighs about 4500,there is only about an 800 lb wight difference, not a ton. Figure you need roughly 10 horse to make up for every 100 lbs of added weight, so take it from there. If his lightning has say 430 horse after a few mods, and your stang has 300 stock, taking into account the ROUGHLY extra 80 horse he needs to compensate for his extra weight, you're looking at having to make up 50 horse to get your car on an even par with his truck.
