Thanks, Hawk would have probably been my first bet, but that might just be because of the adverts... haha... I'm so easily bought.

I have Porterfields on the Cobra, and highly recommend them. I believe you have to buy them straight from the source, though: :: #1 Race Specialist in The World :: »

Hawks good, and I hear EBCs are, too.

I'd recommend the Hawk ceramics. I've always had good luck with them or the HPS'.

I keep hearing the HPS pads chew up rotors though, any truth to that?

mine are doing just fine so far. I wouldn't get their most extreme one, but the hawk HPS (i think thats their name) do just fine for racing and street apps. Put the pads on with a new set of rotors at the same time, so far I've had zero issues after about 2k miles on the road, and 2 days of road racing.

Awesome, sounds good man. I double checked Hawk's website and it's the HP Plus that they warn about rotor wear.

With ceramic or the ferro-metallic HPS pads, what kind of pad-life mileage are people getting?

Also, semi-off topic, how long should rotors last before buying new ones?

The HPS and Ceramics won't eat up rotors. I'm actually just going to get my rotors turned and install the Ceramics shortly. I don't feel like wasting the money on the Baer rotors ... Most guys who don't have the cash for a big brake kit just recommend going with pads, stock rotors, stainless steel brake lines, and a good brake fluid ..

EBC Red Stuff here. A little pricey but I don't mind spending a little of brakes. I might go to their Yellow Stuff up front when the time comes. Supposed to be a better pad but a little more dust.

I'm set on getting some Superblue when I do my brake overhaul and planning on flushing it once a year.

Brake fluid is NOT oil. If you're out in the boonies and run out of fluid, adding oil to the brake system will mess up the brake lines - you'd be better off adding water.

To answer your question, I'd go at least DOT 4 if you can't find DOT 5.

Hawk HPS are great all around pads and wont dust to much.

HP + dust like a mofo. I dont suggest them.

Good brake fluid for not much money is Valvoline SuperSyn. Very good stuff, not expensive.

Believe it or not, but the GMS slotted and dimpled rotors I picked up for my road course are holding up just fine. I still probably need quite a few more miles on them to give an accurate and full evaluation, but so far they get a thumbs up!
