Bilstein Install Question

For those of you have installed Bilstein struts, what did you guys do with the stock rubber bumpstop. I put it on the rod and into the cup on the bottom of the strut mount but it looks kinda crowded. Should I have cut it down some when I put my Pro-Kit in a while back? Should I cut it down now? The Bilstein picture book didn't show the bumpstop in the strut assembly.

If someone could let me know what they did, or know what to do with it, let me know ASAP please. I'm going downstairs to assemble the other strut assembly and then throw them on the car in about 1/2 an hour.

Thanks

You don't use it. The Bilstein strut has it's own bumpstop inside. I believe the instructions even say this.

Really? That's interesting. I'm not doubting you because I've never seen them off of a car or seen the instructions for them.

I'll double check the instructions but I'm almost sure there was no mention of it. Well, they're on the car anyways with the bumpstops on there. I have to go back in anyways 'cause one of the tabs on the washer on the camber bolts broke so I used the old mounting bolt. Now I'll just have to drive around with the camber off until I can get a new one.

Yep - look at the instructions - they say to not use the stock bumpstops because they are internal - I put mine on a couple weeks ago - love them!

Yeah, it looks like I'll be taking them off when I get my camber bolts in. Thanks for the help guys. It shouldn't matter too much that I will have them in for a while, does it?

Ride to work this morning was pretty uneventful. Way too many cops around to check out the new struts. Going for a spirited drive out in the desert this afternoon for a shakedown cruise.

I got these from him. I haven't heard from him all weekend. I PM'ed him on like Friday or Saturday with a different question. Did he pull a session at the Borgota this weekend? I know UrbanRedneck just put a set in too.

Well, usually no news is good news. I hope he had a good session. I've run into a cold deck lately, which really sucks 'cause I'm trying to save up for a couple of big mods; built stroker bottom end and the infamous blower.

Yeah, I'm usually pretty good with that but lately I've lost my touch getting a good read on people. Last night I fired a third shell ($150) on the river at this guy when the board paired fours and he insta calls with a full house. What a dick I am. Couldn't figure out he was smooth calling his set from the flop and I shouldn't have pushed my AK suited that hard.

I agree, 9 out of 10 times you have to keep firing, but occaisionally you have to cease fire and retreat. Tha goes against everything I learned as a Marine, but sometimes it is the better part of valor. I just got frustrated when my flush draw never came and let my emotions blind me to the fact that he was calling me down with a junk board. I should have picked up that he had a set or over pair from the get go. My bad.

Anyways, where is Rich and Redneck to chime in here?

Yeah, it is actually an inverted strut. So the part you see that would be the shaft on a normal strut is the body, and inside the sturt assembly the shaftt and bumpstop is enclosed.

LOL, I guess it helps to be able to understand car-related German.

I doubt it'd hurt anything. But you could always just cut it off with a razor if you can get your hand in there.

oh lol.

I notice in your pics you didn't use the rubber under the springs. I was told by BMR not to as well. I'm curious to see if you hear the odd noise that I sometimes hear and believe is due to that lack of isolator.

Lemme know if you have any more questions. I've been pretty well aquainted with the underside of this car this month lol.

Oh yeah, make sure you tighten them strut bolts good. The spec is like 149 foot pounds or something like that. But the camber bolts instructions say something lower I believe.
