New rotors

Well I finally opted for some new rotors. I decided to go with the EBC 3GD rotors with some EBC Red Stuff pads on the front and rear. now for my question, for the rear rotors is there any special way that the parking brake connects to the caliper that I need to worry about when changing the rotor and pads? Before I get under there and start ?

I run those rotors and pads and really like them. They do produce a bit of "air noise" though, so don't be surprised when you hear it. The parking brake cable should attach the same way as you take it off because it is attached to the caliper and that you're leaving stock, right?

I will see what I can do.

how much did the rotor kit cost you?
all 4 of them cost me about $470 excluding pads. Shipping to Canada well thats another story in its own.

the caliper and that you're leaving stock, right?
Yes sir, they are staying stock. I don't do any racing so there was no need for calipers.

As far as I know the back rotors need the piston turned to push it in. Do you already have a caliper tool? I know a lot of people use c clamps to clamp the pistons.

I don't have a caliper tool but I have several C clamps that I will be using.

do NOT use a C clamp on your rear calipers! you will damage it, the rear caliper "pistons" screw in. you need a brake caliper tool that puts a small amount of pressure against the piston and turns it at the same time. If you just try to screw it in without any pressure it will just spin in place. both of the pistons screw in clockwise.

you need one of these!
make life a lot easier

Most of the local auto parts stores rent the tool out.....Its like $40 but when you take it back they refund your money.

I use my channel locks and a bit of pressure and they rotate in just fine. Even after a full disassembly for powder coating and being basically bone dry.

If you do try it this way be very careful not to grab the rubber seal on the piston. Simple enough to avoid as there is plenty of metal to grab at the edge.

I will be making a stop to the local parts store before the install to get brake cleaner and stuff. I know they rent tools out so I will look into this at the same time.

definitely a +1 on the brake piston tool, rented mine from autozone and finished swapping rotors and pads in 10 minutes a side.
