If certain mods will void a warranty or not is something you should discuss with the service department you are going to use. Each service department manager is different. Some understand an enthusiast desire to mod and will work with the customer. Some will just kill your warranty in the computer and then you are out of luck no matter where you take it.As far the dealership having to prove your mod caused the damage that is true in theory but not in practice. The dealership kills your warranty and you have to find someone higher in the food chain or sue to get the coverage. Once you sue someone, you have to prove you are right and front the money.

+1 on What wendel said
I talked with my dealer, who has done the mod work so far on my car, about adding a few more things. He basically told me that, as a rule of thumb, once you break 360 horsepower, Ford starts getting real iffy about the warranty (unless the parts are an approved warrantied item). he said he'll install anything I want, and thus the labor will be covered and there will be no question of faulty installation, but the part itself and the overall warranty...no. Now I agree, dealers will probably vary, and while I have heard that they HAVE to prove the mod caused a failure, I am sure all a judge has to hear is: "This car has 410 HP, it is rated for no more than 360..." And bang, gavel time and you're SOL. Best case is a court fight which would cost a ton anyway. I know many posters here have had different experiences, and many do their own mods, and many don't care about the warranty, this is just what I was told. Also, he told me the engines are about 7-8k. Obviously if yoyu get one elsewhere, it will be cheaper but then you don't have the new one warrantied either...in case you decide to reduce the HP to keep Ford happy.

I got so caught up in my "dream car" that I bought all these performance mods and didnt even realize that if something goes wrong I wont be covered....The big issue really is the fact that Im a daily driver with the stang and if I mess something up I cant afford to not have wheels to get to work... not to mention theres no bus route where I live

Now I kinda feel if all this upgrading was even worth it.... I only have 10k miles on the car and the warranty runs until 36k, so should I just wait to put em on???

Listen read the magnuson moss act, if your parts are bolt on, then if the dealer has issues with them, then remove the parts before you take it in for service. They can't void your entire warrenty just the modded part. for instance, if you install 3.73 gears and the tranny breaks, the dealer MUST prove the gears caused the problem with the tranny, if they can't then they must cover it under warrenty. If your rear end breaks, then the warrenty on the rear is not covered because you replaced the parts that broke with non stock parts. get it...
If you install all the aftermarket parts and you take the car in for a fuel tank filler issue, they willnot void the cars warrenty because you put a CAI, UDP and exhaust on it. those parts did not cause the tank issue period. Some Reading material, educate your self on your rights as a comsumer and as a auto enthusiast.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act http://www.impalaclub.com/naisso/magmoss.htm http://www.granatellimotorsports.com/magnusonmoss.htm

Hey Tdog
I'm not trying to start anything but you also have to be careful with ebay the engine that you linked to... the guy is claiming it came from an 04 F150. 04 F150's are all 3V engines, the one in the photo is not. and maybe a used engine is worth 1400.00 but as always, BUYER BEWARE 1400.00 for an engine that won't work properly in your car might just as well be a boat anchor with reference to the original question about warranty warranty decisions are based on cause of failure. if the mods cause the damage Ford is not responsible. it is outlined in your owners manual gtss |

Anyone considering upgrades that has warranty concerns on their new car should go to their local Ford dealer, and ask them what will or will not change. You will also find out that you can get a full host of Ford racing performance parts, from decorative trim to lights, to wheels, to tuners, exhaust, intakes, full suspension kits & blowers.
And btw if you blow up the engine in a new Mustang GT, it's going to cost you far more than 2 grand to replace it with a new engine. Depending what you blow, you may be able to repair it for a couple grand, or purchase a used engine for a few grand, but not replace it. |

I don't see adding engine externals like headers or exhaust affecting your warranty(with the exception of superchargers). Now if you start messing with internals thats a completely different story. But if you're gonna void your warranty, or you've already hit the 30 or 40000 mile marker, I'd go for it. New cams, valvejob, stroker kit, forged pistons.
