The tan/white one is between the actual button and the relay. The purple/white one is the power. I actually cut the purple/white at first and just just ran the other wire to it. The OD button on my handle worked, but the rest of the shifter didn't. So I actually had to run a wire tap reconnecting the purple/white wire to itself and the shifter. That's what happens when you do things without the proper schematics. I still haven't seen one with this harness in it. But everything works fine now and the OD button on the handle is good. Learn from the mistakes of others.

I plan on drilling the TCI handle at the thumb end and putting in a switch from the Shack. Then coming out the front lower part of the handle in the center and running the wires down through some stainless loom to the silver plate at the boot then through a grommet and on down to the wiring harness. I want it as factory of a look as possible. This may take some time but I'll try to take pictures and post if I can figure out how. As you can see, I am new to this board but not to custom work. I have spent years doing bikes so now I thought I'd try some on my cars. The O/D switch {in traffic} and 2nd gear {for take off on wet roads} is what I use most. I do really think that TCI should put this switch in the handle and have communicated that to their tech department several times now. They don't seem to be interested in it though. Just said they would not recommend moving the switch. Warranty and all..... I understand.
The wiring help is a great help. Thanks.

I plan to do similar to what "Vapor7" is saying, I am going to make a custom "T" handle and incorporate a switch in the right handle end. I like the feel of the factory switch in the stock shifter, so I might persue finding a Ford switch and try to utilize that.

I was thinking about drilling a hole through that metal plate at the top of the boot for my switch wires I just didn't want to take the shifter apart to see what was actually on the bottom side of the plate. It felt (through the boot) that it was not a regular flat surface and I didn't want to drill blind. I don't know what the lever mechanism looks like underneath there. I ended up poking a hole through the boot near the top and running the wires through that. It's not as neat and tidy as I would like but I don't really notice the wire too much.

Custom is nice, but there a lot of handles out there that will work that already have the button in there. Be sure to post up some pics of the handle.

prolly one of the biggest reasons they didnt put the button on the handle is so that people could change out the handle if they put the button in the handle then they would have had to make the handle permanate

Yes I realize that, B&M Hurst and a few others have some very nice handles with a button in place. I am doing this from scratch because of the DIY /Hobby value. I can alwyas buyt one I just get a kick out of making or modifying things when I can.

I need to decide on a button and design the final product partially around that. I already made a new handle out of 6061 Aluminum bar stock so I will just change the actual hole for the button I select to use. I made a recessed hole in the top of my current handle to have a place to install the O/D and Line Lock in one handle.

Here's my current DIY shifter variation it will just be a slight variation of this handle.

Yeah now I remember that pic from before. Nice! I like the old school rings on the lever. That's how I remember these things looking back in the day.

Yeah, ya can't get much more "Old School" than I am ... I just wanted an indoor project to do one day so I made the Toggle and "T" handle out of some T6061 Aluminum Billit. I just wanted something a little different.

I have my handle cut and the button installed. Also the mesh stainless wire cover run down through a groove I cut in that upper plate at the rear of the shift lever. Looks great. BUT now I have a problem. When you guys are talking about the wire colors are you talking about the car wire harness or the shifter wire harness and are the colors different? I haven't pulled the console yet but the wire colors on my shifter don't match up with the colors mentioned about earlier in this thread. I would think you would want to tap into the shifter wiring not the car 's harness. Any extra help here ???

Can you post up a pic of the clip that goes into the shifter base? That is the one in the pic below. The guy that gave me the info on the wiring had different colored wires also. What year is your car? Even if the wires are different the actual wiring on the clip on the end of the harness should be the same.

I cut the tan/white one and attached one wire from the button to it. Then took the wire right next to it (purple/white) and put a splice/clip thingy on it with the other wire from the button. Do not cut the purple/white wire. Here is a link to the thread that I started to find this info out. Anthony's '05 had a different color wire than my purple/white one. I think it was yellow and blue on his car.

I guess mine should be the same as I have a 2007 however I have yet to pull the console off so can't picture that one. I must assume that the wire colors on the TCI shifter are different than the ones on the car's wiring harness because I don't have any tan/white.
With Christmas and all it will no doubt be a few weeks before I get back to the install. Where you have tan/white that would plug into a green/black on the shifter and there is another green/black next to that. Leads me to think these are the ones.
Looking at the shifter wires in the same position and view as you have in your pic the shifter has green/white-purple/yellow-black on the upper row. The lower row is green/black-green/black-black/pink. Of course if your picture is from the car's wiring harness it would be plugging into the shifter's harness and the colors would be reversed.

Your black=shifter black
your yellow/green=shifter purple/yellow
your red/? = shifter green/white

your blue/red = shifter black/pink
your purple/white= shifter green/black
your tan/white=shifter green/black

I think the confusion is that you are going by the colors of the car's wiring harness while I am looking at the shifter's harness and they evidently are not the same colors with the exception of the black.

I have dealt with the O/D switches before and they are a very low draw temp on/off switch which leads me to believe that the green/white ones are correct. Especially since they seem to mate up to your given colors on your harness picture. Once I pull the console I'll jumper the two with a test light and see. That won't blow anything and yet it will kick the O/D on/off.

I'll know more after the holidays when I can pull the console and get back to the project. Then I will add a complete write up on this button install with pictures.

Thanks for all the help. I didn't want to leave you hanging for a couple of weeks till I got back to it.

Yes you are correct in that I am not refering to the wires in the shifter but the wires on the car. The harness pictured is the wiring harness for the car that clips into the shifter. I don't know what color the wires are in the actual shifter. I didn't want to mess with any wiring in the shifter, if something were to go wrong there is no way TCI can tell that I bypassed their wiring. I have to go into my console again sometime soon so I will look. When I had my console off I would put my magnetic nametag from work onto the tranny tunnel since I didn't have the little cup holder to put it in. When I put everything back together I realized I entombed my name tag in there. Pretty funny huh? And the week before that I was replacing some capacitors in my power module for my TV. Well I put my safety glasses in the TV because they have little LED lights on them while I was working on something. Well when I got my TV all buttoned up, turned on, and was putting my tools away, guess what? I couldn't fing my safety glasses.

I'm glad I'm not a surgeon. I would probably leave hemostats and shit inside of you.
