chain won't work...all that metal clanking together might mask the real noise...perhaps some sort of nylon harness?

Typically there should be no up and down movement when you attempt to move the driveshaft in up or down near the hanger. Sometimes though the play can seem fine, but the bearing itself can still be shot.

Also note I'm not saying that this is definitely your problem. It's just an educated guess, and one of the things to eliminate as you look for the problem.

Another consideration is that even though they told you that everything is fine with the work they did..... that it's really not.

So if you start eliminating things like a bad hanger bearing, bad u-joint(s), bad axle bearing, etc... and are finding nothing wrong with anything anywhere... chances are they fucked up something in the dif, and just are either missing the problem because they're dumber than a box of rocks, or they know and are trying to avoid warranty costs.

not trying to disagree...but i disagree bud.

If you go under the car and put one hand one the front shaft and one on the back shaft and bench press...you will get alot of movement in the hanger...also some slop noise...i know ...i did it, and i was told it was normal.

Indeed. That's why I said 'typically', and why he should find out from the dealer what the proper tolerances are for these cars.
