Question

Self-installation of Saleen blower + supershaker?

Hey guys! Been a while, but I'm trying to get back on the boards more

To the topic... I've had my Saleen blower sitting in a box in my garage for almost a year now. I've been holding off because I have been worried about layoffs and didn't want to spend the money for installation in case I had to sell the blower to pay for my mortgage. It looks like things are turning around, and job stability is increasing. That said, I started to think...

How impossible would it be for me to install the Saleen blower (with SuperShaker upgrade) as opposed to having Brenspeed do it? I've done all the work on my car myself thus far (except for the cams), so I'm getting better, but I am BY FAR no wrench (I'm a computer geek for a living). While I do have a second vehicle, I can't afford to fuck this up and blow up my engine.

I currently have everything needed except the boost-a-pump (or GT500 pumps) and the SuperShaker upgrade.

On a side note, when I spoke to the folks at Brenspeed, they insisted I get phaser limiters installed for my FRPP cams if they were to install the blower. Do you believe this to be necessary? It'd be good for safety, I assume.

I'll have a heated garage and the entire winter to do the install, so I'm not worried about it taking a long time. I'm just worried about doing it right, making sure I don't fuck anything up, and ensuring I won't go crazy in the process.

What do you think?

I say get some friends and install on your own over the winter. Save that installation cash so when you do need it you got it. I'm not sure on the limiters.

Do it man!! I did my Vortech HO and while its a different style blower, it was super easy. Just take your time and follow the instructions, you wont have any problems.

Good to hear ya'll have done some self installs. But how is your wrenching skills in general? Keep in mind the tool I know how to use best is a keyboard

Would love to hear anyone who self-installed a Saleen blower to chime in as well. That way I know who to bug when I run into roadblocks!

A Saleen blower install is easy as pie. I say go for it. It takes basic tools, the instructions from Saleen are good enough and you don't have to be a grease monkey to do the install. Go for it man. That way if anything does go wrong in the future, you will have a better idea of how things works. IE, you loose a belt or something like that. You will know how to install it yourself instead of having your car towed.

me and 05 mustang kb charged installed my supercharger at his house, it took us pretty much all day to do it, but I was able to drive the car home that night.
Saleens instructions on the CD are fairly good, IF you can follow instructions you shouldn't have a problem.

When I added the supershaker upgrade I installed that on my own, the only part you really need help there is to remove the hood.

I'm going to lay it down for you Tribal...if I told you that I've got to do some work on my ONLY PC because I wanted to add an extra hard drive and install a PCI card...do you think you could write me a set of instructions to use and then walk me through it if I needed help?

If so, then grab a tub of go-jo because you're going to be spending some time in the garage this winter, son!

If you get stuck I'm sure the guys on our site will help you. Since you can take your time and don't have to rely on the car for a while, I'd try it. btw I think things might be getting a little better, my wife found a good job after being laid off all summer.

Alright guys. You got my confidence up a bit. 18-1 is the current voting, so it's looking like ya'll don't think I'll destroy my engine. It would save me a TON of cash too.

And like Mickey reiterated, I do have ALL winter I do have other things to install during that time (BMR K-member, line locks, UCA, LCA, springs, etc) but hey, it's at least a 4-5 month period of snow in this shitty state... so I think I'm covered time-wise.

I'm going to contact Saleen and see if they can send me the instructions via PDF file or something. At least I can look it over the next few days.
