Check Charging System Light!!

I was warming up my stang earlier and noticed the revs when up when started up to 2000 and sustained for a few seconds. Left the car and the engine running, when I came back the charging system light was on. I noticed the revs where between 500 and 750. I started to rev up the engine when all of a sudden the charging light goes away, waited again then came back on. I was checking the Haynes Book and I have the impression is either the belt, belt tensioner or the alternator. The belt was replaced when I installed the Paxton. What do you guys think.

Check the battery terminal connections for corossion and tightness.

have the alternator and battery load tested.

Another possible culprit is a bad ground somewhere.

I think these cars have a alternator problems if I am not mistaken. But like zip said have the alternator tested would be my first guess.

That's one of the reasons why I was guessing it was the alternator. I know I'm screwed with the warranty because of the Paxton being installed before it expired. But the fact that the light went away when I reved it up made me also think it was the alternator.

Can they just check it out out of the car? Who does that? Auto Zone? Discount Auto Parts? What do they have some sort of gadget that measures something?

most auto part stores can test them. Yes, you have to take it off and bring it to them.

Does anyone know who can give us discount on alternators? I know American Muscle gives us a 6%. But I live in Central Florida and I can go to Lethal Performance or Brothers Performance. Any clues?

Oh crap! I went to Auto Zone to check the alternator and it's only sending 11 volts, so it's screwed. There goes mod money to the drain. I guess even taking it to the dealer for warranty would be a waste cause they're gonna pop in the same shity alternator. And to top it off refurbished to later down the road pay for a new one. Might as well change it now. Do you guys know if anyone can hook me up with with a good price?
