Dyno Tune vs Email Tune

In the next 2 months I'm going to do a few performance upgrades:

Comp Cams XFI NSR Stage 2
Steeda Economy Delete Plates
Electric Water Pump

While I'm at Brenspeed I'll have a chance to get a dyno tune and I'm curious how much of a difference it will make vs their "canned" tunes.

I searched for this topic but didn't really find anything. I've seen a few thread where people said if you can get a dyno tune...do it. Other than getting the air\fuel mixture dead on, I'm guessing I'll get some hp\tq gains.

Should I get a dyno tune and how much hp gain should I get vs the canned tune?

You will get people saying dyno and email is best. If you want it perfect, a good dyno tune is the way to go, but may or may not be worth the extra cost for a few extra hp.

Thanks for the link Alamo! Looks like the dyno tune isn't really worth the $250.

if you can afford it, and you are at brenspeed anyways, might as well get the dyno tune.
may be worthwhile with the cams.

onederful100,
That was my initial thought was to get the dyno tune because of the cams and delete plates. I guess the biggest thing would be getting the air\fuel mix dead on.

Personally, I think it IS worth it-especially for the cams. I used a canned tune until I got my supercharger. Then I used the tune that came with the sc, it ran ok but not perfect. The tuner spent 3 hours getting it perfect, but it cost me $350.

I agree. I'd go with the dyno tune on my car if I were to add cams to a set-up like that.

If the same tuner is doing the tuning there won't be much difference. The 05+ cars have decent knock sensors that allow peak power much safer than the older cars without knock sensors.

Some mustang shops or garages have Dyno days. I got mine done for $60 and they ran it on there like 6 or 7 times.

You won't have a problem with that.. I got their email tune and when i put her on the dyno- it was a very nice a/f ratio. Everyone was so surprised! I wouldn't worry about that, but if your up there and getting cams i would def go with a dyno tune. I plan to get cams eventually and will only run a email tune until i get to the actual dyno. You may make a few extra ponies, but the drive ability should be a lot better.

IMO I don't think a dyno would be worth the extra $250 just for a few more hp/tq. Spend the $250 on a Steeda crank pulley to go along with the E-h20 pump instead. But hey its your money and if it'll make you sleep better at night then go for it.

I thought about that, but I assumed most of the hp gains would be from the E-H20 pump. You think I could get another 5 hp out of the Steeda crank under pulley?
