Im Not A Freaken Race Car Driver!
so here i sit in front of my computer bouncing on and off of 6 different forums snf countless parts suppliers learning as much as i can about my mustang...
i keep reading about different parts and getting many many opions on them and i have spent countless hours picking what parts i wanted for my car... so here i have been looking for what i wanted... picked my motor, turbo kit, tuner, transmission, body kit, etc etc... but damn, this crap aint cheap... so do i really NEED a 700-900 hp mustang that can push close to 190 mph, carve corners like a knife, and have a car show winning appearance? NO, BUT I WANT ONE! but why? im not a freaken race car driver, im not going to get any money back on my so called investment... and everything and everyone tells me its not worth it and thinks im crazy... but for some freaken reason, i still want it... and its not like im a young kid with a new mustang wanting to be cool, i am old enough to know better but at the same time, i have the means to make some of my dreams come true... and then after i build it, then what? the next project? jeese.... ugh... just thought i share...

Dude. Men like fast, loud, angry, heavy metal. It's a fact of life. Being slammed back in the seat while you're listening to 700 pissed of horses burn off in your combustion chamber just sends shivers up your spine, and makes us happy in the pants.
Do we really need a super hot woman? Or a cold beer? Some things just aren't about need. They area about want. And when you pay for your own shit, want trumps need.

i guess i should give a little background...
im a military member stationed in germany, so all parts i get that are over 70 pounds and over a certain size i have to have internationaly shipping and that cost some cash... for example, the cervini c series body kit that i want will cost me 1250 in shipping alone... so since i was about to drop close to 5 grand just on body parts i thought, why not look into other performance mods first... so of course i went and looked at power adders... dont like NOS so i battled the SC vs turbo.... the battle was brutal, but the twin turbo set up from THP is freaken NICE, how ever the price tag is up there too... there is no way i would put any power adder in my car with out a built bottom end... so i found livernious... and since im in there, lets stroke that motor too... and since im at it, why not some good PP heads from livernos.. then with that power i need a better transmission... so i found the T56 viper spec 6 speed... nice unit... but nice price tag... then its to the rear end... no way that much power is going to had with the stock set up... so i was looking at a moiser 9 inch... oh and then got to be able to handle those curves.... why not a full street kit from griggs... its only 8g's... then their brakes that i havent even looked into along with the smaller stuff like exhaust, pullies, sterio, etc etc etc... but then again... having a 700 hp car with a transmission and suspension to match on the german autobahn could make for a fun drive to work everyday... lol... hell maybe i should build it and BE a race car driver... so i guess the real problem is that i dont have sponsers... that and my car is still ON ORDER!

Well, at least you have income... I'm just a poor lil high schooler with no job and the only way I got my car was because of a deal I made with my dad when I was 14... I'm constantly looking for performance part, built engines, Turbo.... and I only have about 500 bucks in my pocket....

That's a good thing, it means you're good with money. Also, think how lucky you are to have an 06 GT at such a young age.

AF..I think I'm in a similar boat to yours and everyone accuses me of the "midlife crisis" thing. My response to them is "It isn't a crisis any more because I can afford it, the crisis was when I couldn't afford anything." Then I just smile cause I'm doin what I want.I spent more money on getting my wife a swimming pool, hottub, and screenroom and no one accuses her of a crisis. I like driving down the street having people taking pictures of my ride with their celphones. You are as young as you feel so enjoy it. Norm

It's only a crisis if you sit around and do nothing.

AF -
If it helps I have been travelling this path, as you well know from our PM's on here. I bought my 07 in October, took it to the drag strip (for some baseline numbers) and then tore it down. Car has 1000 miles on it as it sits in the garage being tinkered with. Now I didn't get as extreme as you describe, but I got extreme enough to make people say "why in the hell are you doing that". My answer is, cause I can, and cause I want to. I probably have 15 grand wrapped up in aftermarket parts and paint right now among the blower, fuel system, wheels, body kit, paint, and suspension and I'm not going to be done when this wraps up in the next few weeks. I bought the car knowing exactly what I was going to do with it. Being 34 years old and having the money already set aside to fund my hobby is a luxury, but the car will be an example of my hardwork of which I can be proud. I prepared very well to build this car for myself. Besides, what else am I going to do in the winter of Chicago. All I can say is, you only live once, do what makes you happy. Not what everyone else thinks is right. |

I'm the same way. It's a Y chromosome thing. When someone asks why, say its because you can.
