GT 500 to 2007 GT engine swap

I have the 2007 GT with only 2K on the modular v8. What would the price be to get the GT500 5.4 to swap with my 4.6 ? Both engines are VERY $. Can it be done ??? I know the 2007 frame has the extra supports etc for the 5.4 due to 2007 being the GT500 year on the market. Where can I get it ? what is my end price tag ??? Just a crazy thought

Dude, if you have the cash to do this swap, why the hell did you buy a GT and not a 500?

a 5.0 DOHC motor from ford is $15K.... could not find the 5.4L shelby motor on the Ford site..... I think you'd be better off S/C the 4.6 and having a strong bottom end build 4 it... you'd be able to get 500+ RWHP that way... blow away the 5.4L crate motor.....

thinking.... yes, I could get(building 4.6) to around 500HP for about 4-6K. That may be the best option.

TDog...

r u looking for 500RWHP? or Crank?

@ Crank 500 is NP... H.O. S/C and tune gets you there on stock internals.... W/ the $$ u mention...

if u want 500+ @ the wheels...... then your rods/pistons will need to be replaced... with forged stuff.... your looking at more the 6K IMO for that....

crank 450-500 is all im looking for. Procharger has some nice S/C setups. I'd like to keep the stock internals and not wear the engine prematurely.

Hey TDog, I actually stopped by one of the shops in my area yesterday. The owner said he actually just put a Saleen S/C on a 07 with 7lbs of boost and it hit 479rwhp on the dyno. I beleive with a Saleen s/c, you can actually keep it under warranty!!! That has me really thinking about my 05.

I think he was saying that I could find it from $4700-5700. Still is a good chunk of change. I know if I had it, it would be done. #1 make it so!!!!!!!

the tune has a lot to do with it... the canned tunes are set up for "safe" for all cars..... a custom tune can get more power... the 479 # referecnced I'd bet was on a DynoJet which read higher....

my vortech makes 435@ the wheels = 500-510 @ the crank.... you can get the set up for like 6K all in with a dyno tune.....

the roush doesnt make near the same power from what I read and makes only 5psi boost.... yeah if you get a dealer to install and you have less than 1000 miles on the car I've read your warrenty is unaffected....

I love the Vortech..... to me it is a great balance of drivability and power

Now that you mention it, He does have a Dynojet flag in front of his shop. He did say that 479# was after him tuning it. If those Dynojets read a little high, what are they off by? Is it a standard %?

I dont think its that easy of translation..... the systems have adjustments to them... from what I've picked up the Mustang Dyno is a "trueer" real world number and the DJ's are 10% (guessing from memory) higher than the MD'S.... so 479 on a DJ = 425 - 430 on a MD....still very respectable power!

to keep your warranty, saleen and roush are the way to go, whipple installed by a dealer can also keep this. Id steer away from roush, because if you plan on upping the boost, they generate too much heat compared to kb, whipple, magnacharger, etc...A friend has a one on his roush. I plan on going whipple, and stroking to a 5.0. that there is about 8-10k, and will give me about 600rwhp with the correct tune. If i dont go whipple, I am talking to Livernois about stage 3 heads with crane stage 3 cams...100 horses there, and stroking it. that there is 5-6k. and will give approx 450 rwph i do believe with the bolt ons to support it and the tune.
Just remember, the factory driveshaft is not too terribly strong, over 450 rwhp recommends a new driveshaft....

TD, check out this post I made over in THIS thread. I don't know the cost of the 5.4 crate motor, although I do know it's for sale at FRPP. I have the FRPP catalogue beside me, but it doesn't have pricing in it. Go figure. I may be talking out of my ass, but I would be willing to bet you could do the mods I suggested in that thread for roughly the same cost as buying the Shelby 5.4 in a crate, and then you have the cost of getting it in the car. And in the long run you would probably have less headaches getting it all set up & running.

IMO - there is no way you'd get a 5.4L Shelby Crate motor for anything near the 10-12K you'd spend on all the mods you'd need on a GT to get a Shelby destroyer.

If a 5.0 crate motor from Ford is 15K..... what would a 5.4 supercharged motor cost?

figure 6K for S/C and dyno tune
2-3K forged internals upgrades
2000-3000 suspension and tire upgrades

some room for fudge factor....

you'd have a 550-600 RWHP car that would be in the 11's IMO w/o issue and crush any stock shelby

just a informed newbies view....
