Can that happen?!?!
I was just reading another thread where someone blew his engine with an automatic transmission. I wouldn't think that could happen. No matter how hard I nail the gas pedal, my auto-trans never allows the RPM above 6000 and when it does reach 6000, the trans shifts down after a couple of seconds. How can you blow an automatic???

Couple things:
Just because a car is automatic does not mean a motor can't be blown. There are numerous other reasons engines will let go. Are we talking a completely stock motor? If it's a modded car and the tune was crap, then yeah bad things can happen. Especially under a power adder. Even if the car was stock, if the guy over revved the car in a loss of traction situation, the trans is still delayed in it's reaction to shift. Who's to say this guy didn't put the car into another position other than drive and mat the thing? There's plenty of other variables as well. |
