2007 GT versus 2006 SS Impala

okay. Good one here. My Chevy pal runs a paving company and we had 4000 ft of clean new pavement w/no other traffic(not opened yet to public). He hates fords and always wanted to run me w his SS Impala. He has about 1K in after market mods with CAI, Tune and exhaust. I have an electric water pump and a CAI. I'm near 330 HP. He is running an auto trans in his SS while im manual 5sp. I felt so good about this run that i let him start the race by a honk. Sure enough, he rolled off the start, tires squealing..has about 1/2 a car on me. Now, I've never raced side by side with a clear mind and nothing to hold back..SO.. I nailed it in 1st. Man,. that engine was LOUD. I took a quick glance down and my RPM was just over 6K. My tires are all but smoking and I feel the rear getting away from me. I see im now a full car up on the SS. I drop to 2 at 6.1K in 1st and the ass end of my stang is still all over the place. I just could not get good grip on the stock Perellis. One thing to note..the stang really opens up the power at 6K RPM. THis is where it all is !. At 5K in 2 my tires start to stick. He is way back there now. By now he knows he is owned. I drop to 3 and then the torque just goes to town. I backed off at this point and tried not to smile when he rolled up next to me.
+ 1 for Ford

Now with the Envy, I dont have any! Personally I would much rather drive my 96 than any S197. I like the looks much better and they are too heavy for me. Now I had no clue that an Electric water pump freed up that many horsepower. And not to start an arguement, but I still think 330 RWHP is high, but if you have that props to you.

Matt..The point is we drive stangs ! I love them, you love them. Yes, I am pulling that much HP. Even more when I S/C in 3 months.

I dont care if you drive a V4, V6...It is a Ford.. I'f you beat me like a joke..you still drive the legend. You drive the greatest car in American history. An American icon. I'll buy the drinks ! Make no mistake, I love that year of stang..

You say that know, but you probably haven't driven an s197. I have a 96 and an 07. There is no way i could go back to only having the 96. It was just made better. The 07 has so much more interior room and the lines on it are so sweet. If you could get your hands on an s197 i'm sure you would jump all over it.

a JLT or C&L cai plus tuner will add close to 30hp and with the water pump you'll be freeing up that little bit more to the rear wheels. so yes it is very easy to get to 330hp in a new mustang gt don't forget that they are 300hp to the flywheel stock

OK Ill admit that I have not driven a new S197, but personally I think the 94-2004s look better. And as for the 30 HP increase, I was basing this on just a CAI and an electric water pump. Not a tune, because Tdog had not said it was tuned. I also did not know that an electric water pump freed up that much horsepower as I said before. Now if somebody was going to give me an S197 GT I would take it in a heartbeat not because its a newer mustang or has more power, but because my I love Mustangs and because Mustangs are my Passion.

I can only say that I have and o6 with cai, underdrive pulleys ram air via shaker dynomax cat back exhaust took the car to bamachips on sat he put a custom tune in the car it runs great put it on dyno it makes 274hp at the rw I have to say I was a bit let down but the car runs and pulls hard so I doubt that a cai and electric waterpump would make 330 rwhp. sorry I love the new stang and all fords I own 7 but not happening.

you must have gotten it dyno'ed on a mustang dyno. they typically show a lesser hp rating than the other dyno. the mustang dyno is a more realistic number though from what i've heard. that and if the dyno that is used isn't calibrated correctly it can give inaccurate numbers.

My friend had a 1968 Impala and he put a ton into it. It was basically just the shell of the car with all racing parts in it I think he had a big block. He absolutly smoked a stock 1993 Mustang (this was back in 1993).

It was funny because some people in the stands next to me Said "Look Granny came to the race" pointing at my friends car.

He did the 1/4 mile in 12.7 secs.

So true!

The 68 Impala looked like crap on the out-side but my friend was also a class C mechanic and this was his baby. Under the hood was so clean you could eat off it and he always took it on a flatbed to the track.

Needless to say there were always a lot of bets agenst him at first.

Good Kill - congrats. Your next mod should be better tires in the rear for traction.
