Difference In Speed From 05 to 07
someone posted on this site that the 1/4 times for the 05 were 13.5 and 1/4 time for 07 is 13.8. I know that on 07s the 3.31 gears are standard on manual and 3.55 is an $100 option. I know this becuase i paid the money for the 3.55gears. Do you guys think this is the difference in 1/4 mile time. Will those gears make 3/10s of a difference? If not what is the difference?

I think the gears could make some difference... 3/10ths sounds a bit much to me (maybe if they were 3.73s). Are there any other Al Gore-friendly smog crap addons on the 07s?
Those 1/4 times seem a little too quick for stockers compared to some of the times I've seen others post that have a few mods already but I'm not an expert by any stretch... What do y'all think out there in MM land?

I know that they changed the strut towers & front end somehow to allow the 5.4 SVT engine to fit for the GT500 cars. If this somehow stiffened the car up a bit, it would possibly make for a better launch. The engine's from 05 - 07 have the same power. They did make some mechanical changes to the engine, one of the changes being to the cooling system plumbing, and how it relates to the intake. But nothing that would affect performance that I have seen or read about yet. It's possible the gear change makes a difference, but 3:31 to 3:55 is not a huge change.
But more than likely what is happening is there are just differences in the testing & the people doing the testing. You could also take three 2005 GT's, have the same driver hop in them, rip off three passes in each car, and you would wind up with different times across the board. Take a look at the numbers for any drag car, mild to wild. Even professional experienced drag racers don't rip off the exact same time every run, and that's even if they're driving the same car all the time. |

The times will depend on the weights, temps, and elevation.
My car ran a 12.78 south of San Antonio...will probably get in the 13s up here in Lubbock

in a road and track article they compared the 05 stang to a 06 charger r/t they said they got 13.5 out of the stang and 14.1 out of the charger (aint life grand). the brochure I got with my 07 said 0-60 4.9, 1/4 13.8. I don't know what changes they have made. I mean I guess one could have no options and the other could have a couple hundred pounds worth of power seats and so forth.

I heard the difference was mostly because they beafed up the chasse for the GT 500, added beafier welds and that sort of thing, therefore increasing the weight of the car... the suspension change in the 07 was supposed to allow for better turns, and to make room for the new 5.4 liter. I've been trying to figure out how that could make .4 seconds difference 0-60... we may never know...

I know for a fact it depends where the track is located on my drag bike in oregon where the air is good and with good track prep I would run 7.40s then I go to Las vegas where the track prep is second to none I would run 7.60s. So the desert air isn't as good makes less power, maybe thats the problem with the time difference, hopfully this weekend it will be nice in woodburn and I can test the car, see how it runs with the 3.31 gear I will let you know how I do. The 05's have less power then the 06+'s...I think it would be the other way around...The 05's are slower then the 06+'s...

Well the ford manual may be understatement or a guess rather than an actual time. Where road and track ran the car, ford may have just guessed or underrated for the various reasons manufacturers underrate things.

I have dyno proven numbers that the 05's put down less than the 06+ GT's...So I woudl figure they would be faster...

JM<<<<< Yea let me know JM. i got the 3.55s myself like i said. I just looked at the tag on the door and it says gvrw 4450plb?????? Is this the same as curb weight. cause the article im refering to says the 05 they ran against the charger was a curb weight of 3523lb. my 07 can't be 800lbs heavier????????? http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ecs_price.html |

That is not the gross weight of the car (4450) that is the the most weight the car can handle...
2005 Mustang GT Weight - Curb Weight MT3483 / Curb Weight AT3518 2006 Mustang GT Weight - Curb Weight MT3483 / Curb Weight AT3518 2007 Mustang GT Weight - Curb Weight MT3483 / Curb Weight AT3518 Thats the numbers I have found...Seems like they all weigh the same... 2005 Mustang GT - James Peterson 263hp/280tq 2006 Mustang GT - Cale Brennan 265hp/300tq Those were both stock all the way down to the paper filter...Even the same color, wheels, gears, and all so no advatage to either... |

nevermind i just read what the difference in curb weith and gvw is. below is a link to an article featuering the fastest cars in 07 for under $30000 the mustang is second to only the evo. It says the mustangs curb weight is 3575. so it is only 52plbs heavier than the 05. can the 3.31 gears and 52plb mean 3/10. because this article also give a 1/4 time for the stang as 13.8. I consistenly see 13.5 for 05 and 13.8 for 07. i mean i know different drivers, temps, tracks, change 1/4 times but these are consistent. unless these writers just use the same times as they read in someone elses article. I'm beating a dead horse i guess but it's interesting to me.

I would have to say the 13.5 has to be on drag radials...I have seen one of my friends drive a stock 05 GT with drag radials run 13.5's and then he bought a 06 GT with the same drag radials he ran 13.4's stock...
