Twin Turbo build thread

Hey guys, just wanted to officially start my twin turbo build thread. I picked up a "demo" stealth gt twin turbo kit about a month ago and now i'm finally home from training and can get started on the project. For you guys that havent heard of this kit, its the one that mounts the turbo's by the bellhousing. The kit was not quite complete when I bought it, so I've got about another week or so of picking up various hoses, fittings, etc before I can get started on the install. Here are some pics:

Garrett 2871R turbos

Some water/oil lines

I've already picked up GT500 dual fuel pump system, frpp 60lb injectors, and brisk plugs. Right now it's a pain in the ass because i'm trying to figure out what lines, fittings, hoses, relays, etc that I still need. I knew next to nothing about turbos before I bought this kit but thought it would be something different and cool. I'm definately going to need all of your help with this! Stay tuned...

What? Dodge Stealth? This kit is from Exile Performance (Crager) and they recently stopped making them.

Awesome! I saw there was a few kits up for sale but I don't have the cash right now. I know a few people got SMOKING deals on these kits. If not the best turbo kit, its close.

+1. Originally marketed as Team Performance Products Stealth GT twin Turbo kit. For whatever reason they stopped making them. I know the kits were outrageously priced when they came out. I got a decent deal on the kit on another forum...although I thought it was going to be more complete.

They stopped making them because demand was low for something so high priced. When you can make "Similar" power for cheaper, people tend to pick the cheaper power. The original kit, with no options, was right at like $8000.

Alright guys...quick update. I've been working with a guy named Joel from Orme Brothers Racing to get the rest of the oil/water lines and fittings I need before I get started on the install. I cant say enough about his customer service at this point...he was patient enough to sit on the phone with me and go over piece by piece what he thought I needed, and even looked at pictures of the fittings that i had that i emailed him to make sure i get the right pieces. Most places would stray away from this kinda work because my order isn't all that expensive, just painstaking. With that said, hopefully I get the hpipe from the guy I bought the kit from this week and then I should be ready to start the install this weekend. Here are a few better pics of the parts I've already got.

The kit half-assed laid out

Intercooler

oil scavenge pump

carbon fiber air intake

fuel pump assembly

injectors

plugs

oh yeah...raptor shift light I managed to sneak by the girlfriend

I really don't like the way the MAF tube is set up. I don't like how it changes diameter. To me, that is a problem. I didn't know that about the kit. Still a great kit. Don't get me wrong. But that can't be easy to tune. Even though it isn't a abrupt change its still going to mess with the MAF signal. Rule of thumb is straight and of the same diameter for at least 3 inch's before and 3 inch's after the MAF sensor. See turbonetics kits and ask the guys at JDM and Roush Stage II about that.

Anyways, sorry spit balling. Looks like a awesome project and I'm super jealous either way!

No worries! Good info, I hadn't heard that. Guess I'll find out how hard it is to tune when I take it to the shop in a couple weeks.

I haven't heard that this kit is hard to tune, but then again I don't know anyone personally that has the kit installed. Very well could be a non-issue. Just something I learned from guys like Mike at Powerhouse and Urist at Hellion Power Systems.

Doesn't really change the amount of air that is flowing past the sensor though?

Nope. Your right. Has nothing to do with that. It changes the way the air flows over the sensor. Change's in velocity and can cause tumbling in some cases. When a pipe is shaped like that the velocity of the incoming air before the MAF is going to be slightly higher than after the MAF because the diameter gets larger. Which in turn would cause a screwy MAF signal if it is enough to cause tumbling. May not be enough of a change in diameter to affect it. But from what I've read and my limited experience, its not a good idea.

I understand what you're saying but it's not going to create an issue. I've talked to owners of the kits and Justin @ VMP about this kit before. He said it wouldn't be an issue because of the location of the MAF sensor and the fact that it's a smooth transition. He said if the sensor was moved 4-6 inches farther out that it'd be worthless.

Thats good news. It didnt look like it would be much of a problem to me because its such a smooth transition in the elbow. I'll definately let you guys know what the tuner says once I get it on.
