You dirty dirty engine.

This is going to leave everyone laughing @ me but i still need to know...
What is the safest and most effective way to clean ur engine/engine bay... i hate how dust gathers up and i know its something that just happens... ive been told that taking it to a do-it-yourself carwash and use the engine degrease but i also heard u have to do it with ur car running and that sounds a bit iffy to me... so please please please shed some light on my dark situation.

I use Zymol detail spray on all the paint, Mothers Back To Black on the rubber and plastics, Mothers chrome polish on the chrome, and Mothers aluminum polish on all the metal. Just dont trust sticking a water hose under my hoods.

Shoot. I used to use the pressure washer back in the days of carburators and point ignition (if you guys remember what that was). It works but it's kind of extreme. There are probably dozens of other more effective (and easier) ways to clean under the hood. Just a wet towel and some light pressure to start with and then any one of the quality cleaning/polishing products and you'll be fine.
Best thing to do, stay off the dukes of hazzard roads, don't get it dirty.......

that is exactly what i use to clean every motor in every vehicle i have owned. only now i own pressure washer. And NO YOU WANT THE VEHICLE OFF. i use gunk engine degreaser the spray works better than the foam for some odd reason . let it sit for about 10 minutes then spray it off. i would let the engine completely cool and dry then spray armor all or finish 2000 over everything. i have never had a problem.

I've found that after you apply the armor all, everything tends to want to stick to it. It seems to become a dust magnet!
Might be better to just skip that part or try the finish 2000..........
Back in the day for really heavy grime Tide used to work the best but we all know that our current rides will never get that dirty, right?

mostly... you just don't want to get water up the air intake... That's the only thing I can think of... obviously, direct pressure is not a good idea, a nice spray is better than a hard stream. Anything I'm missing guys?

+1

no water in the air intake and older cars that had distributor caps water and moisture would get up in the distributer and the car might not start. distrubtors are becoming a thing of the past. if you have those you can cover them up with plastic grocery bags and rubber bands. the other post about armor all is right. i do think it becomes a magnet.
